Re: German word of the day
ahhh ... a useful term. This means they were "snowed in" at the pub I assume.

Re: German word of the day
Does anyone else find certain German words annoying for no particular reason? I really dislike lecker = yummy/tastes good. Stromfresser = high electricity consumption appliance. Many others that I can’t recall just now

Well open translate.toytown.ing, and make sure that it says "German" to the left and "English" to the right:
Then, enter the German word on the left and click on translate:
You will get a translation, and you also have the option to listen to both of them:
I find neither of the words to sound irritating, to be honest. But maybe that is just me.

What about some craftsman spending time, effort and no small amount of money making beautiful, original items from precious metals and stones, only to see the items stuck in a shop window under a sign offering, "Schmuck".

Yes, it's kinda hard to let go of my deeply rooted idea of what that means.

"Unfug" was often used by moms at the Spielplatz in Steglitz in West Berlin when I lived there in 1986-88. I still can't say it without thinking about how I'm gonna manage not to mess it up and say "unf***"!

Re: German word of the day
My current mission is to keep using "beunruhigt" many times per day properly and finally get it hard wired. My friend Susanne laughed earlier today and sweetly corrected me when I once again said "Er ist unberuhigt".
Why do I always do that? I have no doubt provided this free entertainment for countless other German speakers.

Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung (one word). It basically means a document stating that you have no debts towards your landlord and that you always paid your rent on time.
