Re: New (recalculated) land tax
The letters (one to me & one to my wife) arrived today from our town in Southern Schleswig-Holstein. Why they didn't just send one notice the "Herr & Frau HEM"... I guess that the letters has to go to all owners and the owners may not always live at the same address, so the easies...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
It is looking grim for Ukraine and Europe needs to pull closer with effective action on so many levels and hopefully less bureaucracy. I do worry for concepts like free speech that allows anybody to spout any rubbish - unchecked. Womens rights, reproductive and otherwise. And I am concerned for elec...

Re: UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
I'm in a similar situation with a "stranded" pension fund in the UK - no annuity and only complete withdrawal or leaving as life insurance possible Me too and none of the advisers I have spoken to, both in the UK and in Germany, have come back with anything useful. I may leave this to my ...

Insurance and pension payout after bereavement: tax and health insurance considerations?
I need to get my head three payouts: firstly a life insurance payout following my husbands's death. UK policy payable on death only, this is not taxed in the UK and I hope not taxed here either as I cannot see that it falls under one of the seven categories of taxable income. Will it be subject to h...

Re: New (recalculated) land tax
Our land tax has gone up by about 11%, not sure about changes to water charges yet. It was worth checking the Bescheid though because they sneakily charged church tax, a small amount but annoying nonetheless. Widerspruch by email was dealt with in a few days, so all is well.

Re: Early retirement in Germany based on EU contribution history
Have you looked into paying UK voluntary NI? Increase your UK pension, get a D tax deduction for the cost and have a potentially positive impact on your DRV pension. According to DWP I am fully paid up, I had some correspondence with them after they stopped taking money from the direct debit set up...

Re: Early retirement in Germany based on EU contribution history
I live in the UK, hence applying for my pensions via DWP. If you are in Germany then you would apply via DRV. All that happens when you apply via your local pension authority is that they pull your contribution records together, from all relevant countries, and send that aggregated record to each c...

Re: Early retirement in Germany based on EU contribution history
Exactly so. Waiting for my letter to claim UK pension and will be calling DWP if it not here in another week or so. Does that mean you can apply directly with DWP? I think I read somewehere that you need to apply via DRV in Germany who will then liaise with DWP. I really would prefer to my UK state...

Re: AFPS 75 Family Pension taxed where?
Thanks for putting me straight on the DT treaty and yes, I see that I will be taxed on it here in Germany. The pension award is in line with AFPS widow's pension link you sent, so all is well in that respect.

AFPS 75 Family Pension taxed where?
Following my husband's death I have just been informed that I will receive a monthly payment under the above scheme. It is a UK Armed Forces pension, so some kind of employers pension. My husband already claimed this although on a higher rate. I need to find out whether my assumption that this is ta...

Re: Cancelling a British Passport for a Deceased Person
Try this https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-to-do-with-a-passport-when-the-passport-holder-has-died#full-publication-update-history That works. Interesting that they use Open Document Format. Opened OK in my Apache OpenOffice Writer even if the layout looked a bit skewed. Great news, I...

Re: Cancelling a British Passport for a Deceased Person
Where did you find Form D1 under www.gov.uk? I went there & searched for "Form D1" & got articles about Driving lecences & Director's conduct. Tell us once cannot be used if the person was living abroad permamently (which I am). Try this https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati...

Re: Generic Estate Declaration
OK it seems to me that you need help with the UK side of things. Sorry if I am being thick. Did you register his death the British Consul here, because that might smooth that bit out, as they must be used to people dying not being repatriated. I did not even think to do that, there is no phone numb...

Re: Generic Estate Declaration
So far the German side has not been too bad. My husband spent the first 49 years of his life in the UK, so there are various tiny company pension schemes to deal with as well as a UK life insurance policy. Is is the latter that has this estate declaration. If push comes to shove I will have to wait ...

Generic Estate Declaration
Sadly my husband passed away and I am dealing with a heap of paperwork. The UK bits are posing some problems as there are forms that need to be signed and stamped by a Commissioner for Oaths/Solicitor/Justice of the peace. I guess the closest to this would be a notary public. I contacted the notary ...
