Re: used car buying experience/advice
The more requirements you set, the more difficult and stressful will be to buy. Unfortunately, I am already in this trap Took me a year to find a 7-seater with enough technology for a reasonable price. But, I primarily wanted private, because they're usually cheaper, and I know more about cars than...

Re: Temporary car insurance for a car with US license plates
Just as a hint: if a car's paperwork says that the car has a max. speed of 240km/h, its tires must meet or exceed those speeds to be considered road legal in Germany. This is something that the average American has not on the radar, as they consider 100mph to be warp speed, and thus usually have ti...

Re: Working for a US company in Germany
Thanks for the detailed answer, Panda. So, Franklan's suggestion isn't doable? My brother's in California, so the tax might be significant. Hmm. I thought I could request the tax number myself. I remember I had one when I was an English teacher when I first came here 10 years ago, and there definite...

Re: Working for a US company in Germany
Your brother hires you. This company will be the "man in the middle". Your brother pays them, they pay you. https://www.intertax-consult.de/ This is the most efficient way? Do you know in general what percentage they would take? And, this is of course only possible if he is able to take o...

Working for a US company in Germany
I have an issue for which I'd love your feedback. So, I'd like to work with/for my brother, who has a business in California, and this is my understanding of the situation. Please let me know where I'm wrong, what other options I'd have, and what you would do in my situation. I am really bad at this...

Re: UK general election 2024, who to vote for?
Indeed Sunak wasn't the worst, but if you want people to throw down and say NO, just make sure a minority holds the highest office. Then, they will have had enough  Same thing with Obama. Politics was shit but not insane. No, not until the African from Hawaii was elected president. THEN, they c...

Re: Sparplan for a minor with US citizenship
By BNP you mean Consorsbank? Are the fees higher? Hmm. Kinda out of luck if nobody accepts you. I read somewhere that banks in Luxembourg are more amenable to dealing with US citizens. It is not Consorbank, it is DAB BNP Paribas, German headquarters, and accepts clients only through intermediaries....

Re: The Conviction of Donald J. Trump
Who didn't see this coming? Donald Trump’s lawyers on Monday asked the New York judge who presided over his hush money trial to set aside his conviction and delay his sentencing, scheduled for next week. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-seeks-set-aside-york-002820639.html With the new Supreme Court...

Re: The Conviction of Donald J. Trump
IMO Biden’s very poor performance will keep many folks away from the voting booth who would otherwise vote. They aren’t disengaged, just exhausted. And as much as they hate Tr**p they can not stomach Biden at this point. I am extremely disappointed in Biden for not having handed the reins over to a...

Re: The Conviction of Donald J. Trump
Biden did look seriously old, and yeah, Trump broke the fact-checking machine. In the end this debate is supposed to help the undecideds, who are fucking idiots anyway. If you're undecided THIS YEAR especially, you're either lying to get attention, or you're deluded, but this year it seems engaged v...

Re: Legalising cannabis
Yeah I'm surprised about the online marketplace. Where has that gone? Why is it now pay and pray? Anyway I don't know anything about growing. Is it possible to do it in a corner of the garden, like in-between other plants? It's mostly curiosity for me, and the fact that I can. I have three kids in ...

Re: Legalising cannabis
Is it possible to do it in a corner of the garden [..] If the garden is easily accessible, you will not be the one to harvest, though. Ah no worries. The garden itself is tiny (we live in an apartment in the city) but my kids aren't old enough to question something growing outside. We also have a p...
