Re: Living in Berlin without a drivers license
I 'moved' to a friend's place in CT before coming here, too. Sadly that only exempted me from the practical test - still had to do written, which I passed... on the 3rd try

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Yes, my American friend who lives here got stopped at the airport in Florida last year and wasn't allowed to fly home because her U.S. passport was going to expire in a few months. She had to fly to New Orleans to get an emergency passport. That wasn't cheap or convenient. Mind you, that was leavin...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Also while we are on the whole topic, how come they can make a paper passport which gives me entry to the UK and loads of other places for £94.50, but to make a digital "Certificate of entitlement" it costs £589? I mean I would still be pissed off if I had to pay 94.50 but 589 looks like ...

Re: dual US and German SIMS
Your US passport is your Ausweis. That’s what I used of course to get my number years ago. I just went to the Telekom store and dealt with a human being. I was referring to the Ausweis app, which requires a "german ID card, electronic residence permit or eID card for EU citizens." I suppo...

Re: Train conductor dies after attack by passenger
If there was no weapon, one must wonder why the witnesses didn't intervene if they were able-bodied. What a pity. Especially his acquaintances/friends. These things can happen really fast, before you even get to realise and think about what to do. Well, you never know whether a concealed weapon wil...

Re: dual US and German SIMS
It looks like that it is 13GB per month now. I kept my T-Mobile number and have a German Telekom prepaid card that works in the EU and 🇨🇭(a must since I live on the border). I’m quite happy with it. Rather than paying 10€ a month I just pay 99€ in advance once a year. I text using WhatsApp. The Tel...

Re: dual US and German SIMS
I went to Edeka and bought a card that promised 40 GB for a one year contract for 70 €. That sounded great, but I failed to complete the verification procedure because Google Play reported that the Edeka Smart App "is not installable in your country." Apparently my phone knows that it was...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
I don't get the reluctance to renew a passport, even if it will barely be used. Just for the piece of mind, I would do it. At best, it preserves your ability to prove citizenship easily when needed. The cost is negligible over 10 years, so unless you're really strapped for cash, it's easy enough to ...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
FWIW, the US has always said that US citizens cannot apply for an ESTA and must use a US passport to enter. In reality, there are dual citizens who DO apply for and GET an ESTA (not sure whether ALL who apply are issued one, though). The key is to declare US citizenship in front of the CBP officer, ...

The background to this is the so-called shutdown in the US. link here (Only in German) Yet, they want thousands of small businesses to pay back COVID loans...

I'm quite sure travel insurance should suffice for any mishap or illness that requires it. Check24 will compare for you. There's also this, that you can buy after entering Japan: https://www.jnto.go.jp/emergency/eng/mi_guide.html

Re: Inactivity lawsuit against immigration office – Should I send a reminder?
Don't know how it works here but when I sued USCIS for taking too long, they were given 3 months to respond. They tend to lose track of such suits, so the game is to contact their attorney a couple of weeks before the deadline and ask them about it, essentially as a reminded. They are grateful for t...

Re: Kleinunternehmerregelung
Please note that if your business client is non-German, that turnover does not count towards the 25k€/100k€ Kleinunternehmer limits. Oh really? I have been looking for this info. Thanks! So, a non-german (US, in this case) client can pay me whatever and I can remain a Kleinunternehmer? If there are...
