Apologies if I’ve posted this in the wrong section. I wasn’t quite sure where to put it.
I’m originally from Ireland/the UK (my dad is Irish, my mum English), and although I’ve been living in Germany for a while now, I’m feeling a bit out of my depth with this form. My mum has always spoken very highly of the Toytown forum, so I finally signed up and am cheekily hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.
I’m currently helping my younger brother apply for student accommodation in Hamburg and need advice on how to correctly fill in the attached financial form, specifically Section 2.
My brother earns about 761 € per month through his Ausbildung (he is in the first year)
Our father pays 650 € directly to his current landlord (the lease ends in June; he’s looking for a new place starting July 1, 2025).
Our father also receives 255 € Kindergeld for my brother.
My questions:
Should I include Kindergeld in Section 2f of the form, even though my brother doesn’t directly receive it (it goes to our dad)?
I calculated the total like this – is that correct?
2f. Sonstige Einkünfte
Unterhalt: 4,800.00 €
Kindergeld: 3,060.00 €
Summe Nettobezüge: 7,860.00 €
I subtracted the 255 € Kindergeld from the 650 € our dad pays monthly and treated the rest (400 €) as “Unterhalt.” But now I’m not sure if that’s how the form intends it.
Also: does Unterhalt in this context actually include regular financial support from parents, or is it only meant for spousal/child support defined by law?
