Job situation in Germany

Post by Franklan »

Union and Volkswagen came to an agreement

"Wage dispute at VW settled - more than 35,000 jobs to be cut."

35,000 is a scary number, to be honest.

Indeed. That‘s many jobs. I read it will happen in a socially acceptable manner. Also, other German companies will shed many jobs like ThyssenKrupp. That‘s worrying.

On the other hand, I‘m a tax payer and tired of bailing out the German car industry. Remember Abwrackprämie and the endless Kurzarbeit? All paid for by tax payers.

I don‘t own a car for 20 years and I‘m happy about it. I don‘t need to worry about TüV or finding a parking place, winter tyres, maintenance, etc. Far too many cars in Munich as well.

It is. That's 11.8% of the VW employees in Germany. VW is in my area. There are plenty of people that dream of getting a "secure" job at VW with good pay and a strong union.
