Wüstenrot Tagesgeld: https://www.wuestenrot.de/geldanlage/tagesgeldkonto
3,75% per year (the interest rate is guaranteed for the next 12 months)
Interest is paid out quarterly, so the effective interest rate is 3.803%
Identification: either PostIdent, or VideoIdent, or if you have a German Personalausweis with a PIN by using the PostIdent app
Wüstenrot Bausparkasse is in the legal deposit insurance scheme, i.e. up to 100,000€ are guaranteed: https://einlagensicherung.de/banks/wust ... ellschaft/
But the point is moot, since they only pay the 3,75% on up to 50,000€, you only get 1,25% on the amounts that are above 50k€, so nobody will put more than that in there.
You will only get the 3.75% if you open the account by tomorrow 14.08.2024 midnight!
The important thing is when you apply for the account, so as long as you send in the application by tomorrow midnight, even if you only do the identification (PostIdent or VideoIdent or with the German Personalausweis with PIN) later, you will still get the 3.75%.
The process is easy:
- fill in your checking account IBAN, this will be the reference account, i.e. the only account to which will be able to transfer money to from your Wüstenrot Tagesgeld. This is why the transfers work simply with a SMS sent to your mobile phone.
- then you give in your personal details (name, address, nationality, date of birth, city in which you were born, whether you are an employee/freelancer/civil servant/pensioner and so on, whether you're single/married/divorced and so on, your mobile phone number, for example if it is a German mobile phone 0175-5866734, you give in: 00491755866734, and your e-mail address
- then you have to confirm that you read the legalese that had in parallel been sent to your e-mail. They attach it as a zip-file, the password to which is your date of birth in the format ddmmyyyy
Don't worry, you don't need the zip file, you will get the summary later on anyway, so you can just check these 2 boxes so that it lets you go on (until you check both boxes, the "Weiter" remains greyed out) - now they tell you that in the step after that, you get to "digitally sign" the Tagesgeld application. Which is a strange definition, because it isn't a real digital signature.
But bear with them, just click on "Weiter". - now 2 documents appear, you can click on each one to download it, and then click on "Weiter" (it's not working right now, it times out after about 3 minutes and shows an error message asking you to try again later, but it did work for me when I opened my account earlier today)
- in this step, you ask them to send you a SMS to your mobile phone with a 6 digit code (= TAN), which you then enter on this page. You validate this TAN by clicking on the red button directly beneath it. But then you still also have to click on the button at the bottom right.
- now you get a page with a button with the disquieting sounding "Jetzt kostenpflichtig bestellen", that was unfortunately formulated, of course the Tagesgeld is free, just click on the button.
- now you get to the PostIdent page, where you can choose either to download the PostIdent coupon and go to a Deutsche Post branch with your identity card or passport to be identified, or do VideoIdent on the spot using your smartphone, or if you have a German Personalausweis with a PIN do the identification right away using the PostIdent app and by holding the Personalausweis next to your smartphone, with its NFC capability reading the data from your Personalausweis and by making a photo of the front and back of your Personalausweis.
