Present recommendations to take to America

Post by Robinson100 »

Hi guys,
just a quick question here:
A friend of mine recently married an American, and she will be traveling to the States at the end of February to meet his family for the first time.
He has already taken back beer krugs, so do you have any other recommendations as to what would be appropriate?
Thanks!

Chimneysweeps are traditionally lucky ans may be invited to weddings wearing their regalia. How about a Schornsteinfeger Räuchermann and include some packets of the scented smoke cones.
(Our Schornstfeger is tall, blond and always wears his gear proudly! Mmmm!)

Kuckucksuhren are always a favourite with Americans ;-)

No, seriously, it depends on his family's interests.
A Rotring Professional metal pen/mechanical pencil is a good gift for technically minded persons: https://www.amazon.de/s?k=rOtring+Professional
If they like writing by hand, a Lamy is a good choice (either a fountain pen or a Tintenroller): https://www.amazon.de/s?k=Lamy&i=office-products
If they like cooking, any of the Rösle utensils will be a welcome gift: https://www.amazon.de/s?k=R%C3%B6sle

For inspiration, I suggest this catalogue of companies that still have products "Made in Germany": https://www.ausdeutschenlanden.de/index.php/kategorien
Or just look on the Manufactum site, they always where a product was made (but then use Idealo.de to look for it cheaper, Manufactum is expensive): https://www.manufactum.de/

Hmmm... a lot depends on the receiver. I think a coffee/tea cup and some local tea and chocolate would be fine. Coasters are fun too. I sew tote bags with local fabrics as gifts, but not everyone can do that. Whatever she brings, even a small or inexpensive item, will be welcome, because it's the thought that counts. And her visit is the real gift.

Some good ideas coming in here, thanks!
Does anybody know which foodstuffs one can import, and which are forbidden? It´d be a pity to try taking something that then gets confiscated!
