Re: Why are you unhappy today?
Herbst Schulferien right now, at least here in S-H.
Grab the chance to travel to Italy visiting Oma, with lovely teen daughter.
So we get to Pinneberg station in time, ready for our 12hr journey (plus overhead, total like 14hr).
And even before departure DB announced our Regional got delayed, so we will miss the connection in Hamburg.
Now sitting in Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. Waiting for the 9:01 ICE to Munich. Current delay 2hr. If this doesn't worsen, total journey will be 14hr train (or like 16hr, if overhead included).

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
Oh that is so frustrating on such a long journey.
I'm super glad that you are travelling with your kid, that's great!
Wishing you a lovely time together, even if you are spending it at various Bahnhöfe...

So we took the 9:01 ICE Hamburg -> Munich. This train also arrived at destination delayed. Schedule was now such that with the best possible connections we were to arrive at Rovereto, final destination in Italy, the following day. So DB put us in a Hotel in Munich. We had our fun time, including food and drink and music at Kilian, Irish Pub behind Frauenkirche.
Accompanying my teen daughter browsing casual clothing stores in Munich Altstadt was not the most joyful experience of my life (=it was a boring torture), but still a good chance to bond, this belongs to parenting too doesn't it...
Now sitting on my hotel bed, just about to walk to Munich Hauptbahnhof and resume our journey. Hope we make it!
All in all much fun. A little bit more adventurous than intended, actually a good thing.

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
I`m sure that if you had said so before, half the Munich TT team would have been there with you!!!
Maybe next time, huh?

Indeed, next time, maybe.Robinson100 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 9:02 amI`m sure that if you had said so before, half the Munich TT team would have been there with you!!!

Believe it or not, I did think about it. But I had short notice, we knew we were going to spend the night in Munich at like 5pm. Plus, I suspect many of my TT friends "in Munich" are in reality in the suburbs, with jobs families are everything, so probably a hassle to make it.
But yes, next time I try to make it happen, maybe on purpose organize a stopover during my Hamburg - Gardasee Journey.
Re: Why are you unhappy today?
"Next time" that I'm forced to spend a night in Munich, courtesy of DB delay, is maybe today......Robinson100 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 9:02 amI`m sure that if you had said so before, half the Munich TT team would have been there with you!!!

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
We're in the train, RJ86 from Italy, maybe 20 min from arrival.
But the big unknown is whether DB will give us hotel, or tell us to continue with a later train and arrive 1:00 am, which unlike original plan is actually the next day

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
We continue the journey. Just a little delayed.
ICE from Munich at 18:18 instead of 17:26, will arrive in Pinneberg at 00:53 instead of 23:24.
Pity.
Spending the night in Munich with my teeny, again, and possibly meeting some of the local TT friends, would have been nice.

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
So not too much delay after all.
It was a bit late notice for me to meet anyway. Maybe plan a night in Munich next passing and we can organize something.

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
Unhappy because I just realised that today is a public holiday in Bremen but not in Berlin.
My official place of work is Berlin even though I work from home in Bremen except for 8 days per year.
What that means is I completely failed to prepare for Halloween tonight. I didn't go out and buy sweeties for the trick-or-treaters expecting to get them at lunchtime today, but today in Bremen the shops are all closed.
So now I'm gonna be the grumpy old man with no candy all night. Grr.
Oh well lights off, door-bell switched off, and an early night for me I guess.

Petrol station maybe for sweets? I forgot about Halloween one year though couldn’t hide as our cat Louie always accompanied neighbourhood kids trick or treating. He started doing this when we still lived in the UK. All I had was fruit and a tin of small change. The kids chose the cash of course. A handful of 5-10 cents went down a treat. They each got an apple anywaypappnase wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 6:03 am Unhappy because I just realised that today is a public holiday in Bremen but not in Berlin.

I stopped doing this a few years back when someone stole my wittily carved pumpkin lantern... now I a bit of a "bah humbug" old bag about it.

Re: Why are you unhappy today?
I know haven't posted in a while. I'm bummed because our bully boy died a few weeks ago, and my wife isn't ready for a new dog. She works a lot, and the house gets lonely. He died at 13 from metastatic lung cancer. Fast and aggressive. He didn't suffer.

Oh no! I'm sorry. That's a tough blow. Glad he didn't suffer, but I can well Imagine it's lonely without him. You were really great fur parents. Alfie is 16 now and I'm not in denial as to the fact that that day will come. Thinkin' about you and hoping things get better. Glad you let us know.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that. I know how much that pooch meant to both of you.
Happy to see you here, though. Don't be a stranger.
