Coin deposit machines in Berlin?
Coin deposit machines in Berlin?
Does anyone know of banks which have coin deposit machines? Preferably around Prenzlauer Berg. Thanks.

You can do it at no fee at the Bundesbank: https://www.bundesbank.de/de/bundesbank ... lin-605066

I went to my local Sparkasse with a box full of small change. Was told that their normal Geldautomat has a function to accept them into your account and the assistant kindly showed me how to do it.

That's good to know - I've only seen the commercial machines in supermarkets that take a percentage cut of around 10% for the service. Have been collecting 1, 2 and 5 cents for a rainy day, maybe it's time to cash in my riches!

Yes, ours started charging last year. I think we get one freebie so we will have a very heavy bag. The problem now is finding the machines that do it since they have closed so many banks and ATM's.

Re: Coin deposit machines in Berlin?
my little Allgäu Spakasse had the machine in which the coins were dumped in, counted and paid to my account. They took the machine away a few year back. Now they put in a bag and it's sent to Kempten to be counted and deposited. What is most interesting is I pay nothing for this.... em... service. I tend to count it first before taking it in. I trust no one.john_b wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 5:42 pm My joy might have been premature...

I don't think I was charged for using my Sparkasse Geldautomat (it has to be one of the Ein-Auszahlung ones.) Frau Google tells me that payment or not varies from branch to branch.

It’s free for customers at the Sparkasse here.Feierabend wrote: ↑Mon Oct 27, 2025 8:08 am I don't think I was charged for using my Sparkasse Geldautomat (it has to be one of the Ein-Auszahlung ones.) Frau Google tells me that payment or not varies from branch to branch.

I read this one today
Simply pay at the self-service checkout at Rewe or Lidl and insert all the coins you have collected. The machine will then give you your change in larger bills—completely free of charge.

I can see the impatient Rentner behind me rolling their eyes as I insert 200 coins.
Brilliant idea all the same! Thanks.
