The summer of 2024 was superb
In May I saw Rammstein
In June it was AC DC
In July it was Deep Purple.
All 3 gigs were superb. Loud and Proud. Of the 3 acts Deep Purple was the best. Ian Gillan can still hold the notes Roger Glover still playing mean bass and Ian Paice is still an awesome drummer...and they're nearly 80 years old! Their new lead guitarist who replaced Richie Blackmore and Steve Morse is an Irish guitarist Simon McBride, wow this man can play.
Lets see what this summer brings...
I saw Rammstein last year in Frankfurt and they were excellent. I would have liked to see ACDC last year but at €150 it was too expensive as far as I am concerned and the concert in Dusseldorf this year is even more expensive at €165 for a ticket
Iron Maiden and Scorpions for me in July. I've seen Iron Maiden before and they are very good. Never seen the Scorpions so we will see what they are like.
Did consider going to see AC/DC last year, but was put off by the price tag.
I also think, that as there is really only one original member of the band (Angus young) left, that AC/DC has become a tribute band, and has should not have a high price tag, like with going to see more or less the same line up of many bands. There are many many Beatles tribute bands out there, but they recognise, they cannot charge the same prices as the original band.
Having said all of that, I bet it was a cracking night.
I wouldn't call ACDC a tribute band. Brian Johnson may not be an original member but he has been there for 45 years now and is the original singer of a lot of their music so it's not like they only play the Bon Scott songs.
Now, when Axl Rose sang with ACDC that could be called a tribute band
FYI - if any ACDC fans are in the Köln/Bonn area Dirty Deeds 79 are an excellent ACDC tribute band and much cheaper at around €20.
Yip the tickets were expensive
Rammstein - 111 euros
AC DC - 150 euros
Deep Purple - 80 euros
But, but, but....I did not pay a single cent for my tickets. The folks that drink in our local pub chipped and bought me the Rammstein ticket as a xmas 2023 gift...the AC DC ticket I got as a birthday gift from my best mate and his wife and the Deep Purple ticket was given to me by my neighbour as his girlfriend was ill. Lucky me. The German people have been incredibly kind to me since I got here in 2020.
I'd like to see Iron Maiden again but since reading that Bruce Dickinson is a staunch brexiteer I'm slightly pissed off with him ( yes I know some people think I'm being petty!)
Good to hear you didn't pay for the tickets. I didn't realise Bruce Dickinson was pro-Brexit but he doesn't mention anything political in his concerts (or not the two I have seen him play) so it's not an issue for me.
You do get some band leaders who take the opportunity of a concert to voice their political view and I never bother attending their concerts regardless of whether I agree with their views or not. I pay for concert tickets to hear a band play their songs not to listen to their political views.

and was it good ?

I've seen Moz live quite a few times over the years and the setlist was an utter disgrace.
18 songs, of which at least 12 I would class as more average album tracks.
Considering the available back catalog, I could have chosen at least 50 other songs which a huge majority of the crowd would have preferred to have heard.
Add to that, no warm up band, instead there was 45 minutes of utter dirge playing on the big screen. Videos of obscure tuneless bands from the 70's and 80's. Every time a new video started, the whole crowd was booing.
He's also 66, and it shows. Previous shows were entertaining and he was a real showman. This time he basically stood still for the hour and a bit. He clearly couldn't be bothered. He also seemed to have trouble talking between songs and was basically incoherent.
Overall, very disappointing.
The question is... do I gamble on seeing Johnny Marr in November???

I was tempted to go see him, but I thought it would be nothing like the smiths again.
I remember going to see Sting at Ischgl, years ago....., I skied away very disappointed, almost no police songs, just his new creative jazz crap. Ok, i was there for free, but what a waste of my skiing time.
I really hate it when these stars, branch off to do there own stuff, which generally does not sell well or sound that good, then do concerts and not play hardly anything from the old days that made them famous in the first place. If they are going to live of the old hits, then at least play them, not the crap they moved on to.
I know they have the right to do this, but I also have the right not to go and see them or listen to them/him/she.
yesterday, you might enjoy watching Sting playing with Chris Botti at the Java Jazz Festival. I like their whole performance but Sting does his old stuff as well. I've watched the whole thing about 5 times. I was never a big Sting fan until I saw it.

Thank you, for making me aware of this.
Sorry I did not go through the whole video, its just too long As a younger person I did like to listen to the police, quiet a lot, so that probably will colour my view.........
But comparing this
with that
I just find the original better, stings voice has clearly got much more life in the original version, for me I can see the band working together in away that the later version does not have.
I know its just a question of preference, and I guess you prefer one version and I prefer another, with is clearly ok. Life would be very boring if we all thought the same.
But is was nice to see all the same.
In contrast, I went to see Blondie in about 2000, in Munich, pushing Maria. I loved to see the band playing together and her voice was still good. Ok, not as much time had passed.
FYI - If you want to check out the songs an artist/band is likely to play before the concert have a look at https://www.setlist.fm/
Most artists/bands play the practically the same set list for the gigs of a particular tour. Morrissey is the same with only 1 or 2 song differences for each concert - https://www.setlist.fm/search?query=morrissey

Yeah, I'd checked it out on Setlist beforehand and pretty much knew what he would play.
As I'd already paid for the ticket I decided to go anyway.
Doesn't make it any less irritating....
