Anlage KAP - Ausländiche Kapitalträge Query

Post by DNH »

I am very pleased to find that the old toytown.de has been reinstated with most of the excellent contributors from before in attendance !

I have a question regarding the completion of the Anlage KAP form and, in particular boxes 19, 20 and 23 as explained below -

To the best of my knowledge, Box 19 should include all foreign investment income including interest from overseas savings accounts and dividend income from share investments held overseas.

And figures to be entered in Boxes 20 and 23 represent the capital gains and losses respectively arising from the sale of shareholdings overseas.

Whilst I realise there are separate boxes for the capital gains and losses (as above), my question is whether the Ausländische Kapitalerträge (foreign investment income) to be entered in Box 19 should also include the capital gain and/or loss amounts as entered separately in boxes 20 and 23 ?

A response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Whilst I am sure that Pandamunich will be along shortly to give you a wonderful explanation of the whole subject, I wonder if you realise that you can also phone your Finanzamt and ask them these things?
The last time I spoke to "the Finanzamt" they were really very helpful!

A fair comment. I am based in Berlin and have already visited my local Finanzamt to ask some rudimentary questions on other matters. However, I am not sure my rather limited knowledge of the German language (currently B1+ ish) would extend to a detailed conversation on this subject. But, it’s certainly something I will try in the future. In the past, I have found HMRC to be very helpful over the years and, I am pleased to hear this is also the case with the Finanzämter here in Germany.

All done. Updated my location as Berlin and also written a “member introduction”. Thanks.

Thank you. I had assumed that Zeile 19 must require the capital gains to be added and the capital losses deducted from the way in which the „Berechnung der Einkünfte“ then removes these to give an initial Kapitalerträge figure before including the capital gain and loss amounts back in again as part of the calculation. A bit confusing (at least for me) but, many thanks for confirming this 👍🏻

Thanks again to all of you … und schönes Wochenende !
