Cancellation of health insurance

Post by vryy »

I will move to UK for work. I contacted my health insurance company to cancel the contract. They said they also need the deregistration paper (Abmeldung beim Einwohnermeldeamt). I do not get this. If I deregister, my address will be gone. But I'm still coming back to the place here and then.

This is a complicated topic. There are many issues with leaving DE, having a property here and not deregistering. Including issues with health insurance, liability for income tax (though double tax agreements would take care of that) GEZ, home insurance and more (official mail being sent to the property?)

But sticking to your original simple question, if you do not deregister you will have to keep paying health insurance.

BTW I am no expert but bumping so perhaps the clever people rock-up. I am just remembering stuff that used to be on the old TT. Could be outdated.

In what way? They don't knock your house down when you go. You are just officially not living here. You can come back for your holibobs and to visit and do whatever, you are just not mainly living there any more. You will still get your post from everyone other than the Burgeramt, who will need your new UK address and honestly, how much post do they send?

Pretty sure snowing is right, with no Abmeldung your KK payments will continue and probably the FA will expect you to be doing tax returns as well.

When you deregister, they will ask you on which day you will move out, so that they can enter that date into your Abmeldung into the field "Tag des Auszugs" (= moving out date).
And that will be the date up to which you will have to pay for public health insurance
