European Parliament election June 9, 2024
I know more than I need about the UK political situation, I know plenty about the Bundestag, but there is not much coverage of the european election, not sure who the candidates are or how the election works, although I have been voting in european elections for decades, even when they were held in the UK.
Who should one vote for, and why?
I do wish the media would focus on european elections instead of obsessively speculating about a certain fringe party

Good information.
Then there is the Wahlomat.
This is expected to go online a few weeks before the election (it's not online yet).
On this website you will be asked ~35 questions about your political views and then you will be told which party (election program, manifesto) suits you.
Good information about the Wahlomat itself is here.

I just saw that the esteemed Politische Bildung has issued a book about the Europawahl, that should help me decide how to vote, and for whom

Found some info from the politische Bildung.
There are no local Divisions or Constituencies as in other elections. The Constituency is the whole Bundesrepublik Deutschland!

I am worrying about Albträume, nightmares, brought on by ubiquitous larger-than-life pictures of candidates.
"Vote soundso!" they shout (no "please"!).
I shall certainly be voting, but without much enthusiasm

Yippee, I got my Wahlbenachrichtigung for the Europawahl so I can vote by post!
There are lots of billboards but no leaflets in the post yet. Nobody has asked for my vote.
..
What should you do if an undesireable party asks for your vote? Tell them to go away?
No, engage them in conversation for as long as possible so they are unable to talk to other possible voters. My slight accent when speaking German would confuse them even more, very good

I checked the theses, but no party is offering Freibier

Freikugelschreiber, free ballpoint pens, are usually available. And useful notepads, sticky notes and more.LukeSkywalker wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 5:39 pm I checked the theses, but no party is offering Freibier
The EU recently passed legislation requirung caps on disposable drink bottles to be fixed to the bottle! A good start, perhaps more serious matters will be addressed soon.
The SPD-Plakate show regional candidates and Ms Barley, the lead candiate for the SPD, she is half German and half Englisch!

Where does the meat come from?
Keep in mind that Botswana wanted to send 20000 Elephants to Germany and "Die Linke" said "Cool, we're willing to take them"...
Re: European Parliament election June 9, 2024
The Bundespräsident took 60 kg of Döner meat on his visit to Türkei, I do (not) believe it!
Sold my vote for a couple of ballpoint pens today

Just a reminder to anybody who has applied for a postal vote, and still has the letter sat on their desk, that it is about time to open it, put a cross in one of the boxes, and get it to the voting station.
I just did mine, and my boyfriend will deliver it by hand in the morning.
Whoever you choose to vote for, it would be a shame to be permitted to vote and not to do so!

Am I correct that as a British citizen resident in Germany, I have no right to vote in the European elections? Previously I could vote in Germany, however I assume that was because I was still an EU citizen.

I sent my postal vote to the Netherlands last week. The envelope is orange, so everybody knows where to deliver it .Robinson100 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 8:10 pm Just a reminder to anybody who has applied for a postal vote, and still has the letter sat on their desk, that it is about time to open it, put a cross in one of the boxes, and get it to the voting station.

I'm always scared that a temperaMENTAL postal worker will do something with my ballot.
