Robert Duvall (95) passed away. Nominated for 7 Oscars. Won one. I just saw him in Godfather II on Saturday. Great movie. His famous line is “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” in Apocalypse Now. Not many left of his generation.

Re: What are you cooking today?

Well, it started yesterday, actually, but we had lentil and tomato soup for lunch - homemade, of course, with a BBC recipe: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/lentil_and_tomato_soup_19393 - sooooo easy to cook, and so wonderfully gloopy!!! I cooked it today with your recipe with some ciabatta. Was ...

The German Unwort of 2025 is “Sondervermögen”.

While “Vermögen” refers to credit in everyday life, in a political context the term means a debt-financed supplementary budget.

Re: Money-saving tipps

Supermarkets charge a lot for packed fresh pomegranate seeds, ie. €1,99 for just 80 gram or €2,99 for 150 gram. I buy pomegranates on sale for €0,99 or €1,11 at Edeka and do the deseeding myself. You need some skill for that (I mainly do it under water), but I get a lot out of it and is much cheaper...

Re: Living in Berlin without a drivers license

I would love to simply stop driving when I move to Berlin, but am wondering about buying new furniture there. Presumably IKEA or equivalent will deliver it? I bought once a sleeping sofa and mattress at Höffner and it was delivered to my home free of charge. They also took my old sofa and mattress....

German television will probably air that movie this week to honour her. Also, great music from Ennio Morricone. Recently, they showed plenty of Robert Redford movies.

Re: Problems in Supermarkets in Germany

One point was that customers complained about no baskets. When baskets were introduced, turnover reduced so baskets were removed. I don’t know if it’s still like that? My local Lidl has no baskets as well. I always found that odd. I only buy there on occasion and then perhaps 4-5 items which I put ...

Yeah, today it’s raining again like yesterday and the day before yesterday. I think it rains every day for two weeks now. It’s also only 15 degrees in the afternoon. My brother lives on Mallorca. Boohoo.
