Ryanair to close its Berlin base - 50% fewer Ryanair flights

Probably because of Lufthansa's de facto monopoly?

Some on social media are describing this as a "catastrophe" but this may be more headline than harm. Ryanair is known for making a lot of noise, but changing its mind later. Many BER Ryanair routes are already served by easyJet, Eurowings and others, so losing Ryanair capacity doesn’t mean losing destinations, and these rival airlines may fill profitable gaps quickly. Main impact is likely fewer ultra-cheap fares, fewer flight times, and less spontaneity. More a nuisance than a crisis.

Thoughts?

All the airlines are supposed to run out of fuel in the next weeks. That may have something to do with it. There won't be any cheap flights or expensive ones.

Sad news.
I think they will go ahead with it, Ryanair has been complaining how expensive Germany airports are in general for a long time.

I think they can find better value airports outside Germany, and make more money. its sad thou.

I have only flown with Ryanair maybe 12 times, yes they are un believable cheap airline, like last year I went from Memmingen to the UK and back for 44 euro. It was quite easy with a direct bus from the HBF Munich. But the experience is never really nice.

I heard that airlines are in general cutting back the less profitable routes and using the potential fuel crises as the excuse, certainly Ryanair has cut all Memmingen flights to the UK until October. So for me I suppose its back to Lufthansa > 300 return !

I find it difficult to come to a conclusion, about how much disruption there will be over this middle east thing. I have read that Europe gets about 50 % of its jet fuel from non middle east sources, so what that will mean for the flight industry in the EU is hard to estimate.
