Call me befuddled. My e-bike doesn't move unless I pedal.

So much hate and “facts” about devices you clearly have never used and have zero idea how they work.

PS. I live in Berlin and cycle a lot and have never in my life seen an illegal e-bike.

If they overtake me with reasonable difference of speed they would be illegal. Not rocket science. The only ones that overtake me are normal bikes.

I was knocked off of my bike by an asshat in his car who opened his door into the street without looking. I was in 3rd gear out of 7 so not fast. After that, I always rode a meter away from parked cars so when you see bikers doing that, they just may have a reason.

There have been many accidents with e-scooters, some deadly. Surely some with cars but also people falling off or hitting pedestrians, especially where they are available to rent in areas where people are coming out of bars and feeling like now is the perfect time to try one. Some cities have banned them.

There are some accident statistics here: https://www.destatis.de/DE/Presse/Press ... 8_462.html

The rentals make no sense to me in Munich where public transportation is so easily available.

I have no problem with private owned ones. I think they take more care.

I don't know. If you have your own, you can rig it to go faster. Here's a video of someone on an e-scooter with a kid, they say going 70: https://www.mbl.is/frettir/innlent/2021 ... _km_hrada/

Might I nominate the title of this thread as a particularly schöne example of Denglisch?

My neighbour fell off his rental e-scooter, dislocated his shoulder and tested just over the limit. Lost his driver's license for 9 months but the authorities decided to give it back without having to do the Idiotentest. Lesson learned!

Oh no, the Cycling Season starts soon🤔 Not for me, I cycle most days in winter🙂

Is conventional cycling finished? I read about a "cycling group", the majority ride €bikes. Unpowered riders might not be able to keep up.

I am happy to report that cycling of many varieties is alive and well here in Konstanz and on the Bodensee in general. 😀

Not finished. I try to keep an average of 1000 km/month

Perhaps e-bicycles allow slower riders to join conventional cyclists on group rides without worrying about being left behind our slowing the group down. However I don't think the E-Bike motor works above 25kmh, and most group rides will be exceeding those speeds anyway. Perhaps it's only beneficial on climbs.

I think some go up to 45. I often see e-bikers going well over 30, mostly without helmets. :?
No eBike can go legally over 25 km/h. The ones that can go up to 45 km/h are not e-bikes, those are S-Pedelecs and need license plate, insurance, helmet and driving license (class AM).

But I know you live in an special Germany where all eBikes go over 30 km/h.

No wonder how basically everything he/she has posted in this thread is wrong and pure misinformation, probably intentional due to a strange hate on e-scooters and e-Bikes.

Will be interesting to see the reaction when they find out about my velomobile - where some chaps can cruise at 50 km/h without motor. Me, a lady in her 50s, only manages 35km/h. My motor switches off at 25 as it has to, and I don’t wear a helmet.

Munich is banning e-scooters in the public transport, their reason: because they use batteries. They brought data from fires in other countries, forgetting that e-scooters are heavily controlled in Germany and basically there are no crappy ones in the market. Sad day for micromobility.
