Removal company suggestions

Right, my girlfriend and her two cats just moved in with me. She was in Thüringen previously. We met with a representative of a removal company to transport her belongings to the Allgäu - a distance of 524km.

She has truly a few items to move. Three old medium book cases or schränke. A large table she works on, a four-seater sofa and two matching arm chairs, an old hobelbank, two or three small chests of drawers, some boxes of books and bakery type plastic crates of various items. Enough things to take up about 20qm when bunched up, as we've done.

The quote received yesterday bothered me. 8,500€! No stairs involved in the emptying of her house and one down set here into the cellar. Seems a wee bit high. I moved here in 2011 with the same amount and I paid 1,100€. That move was from Frankfurt - about 410km.

Might any of you wonderful lot have experience with either a good and affordable removal company in Thüringen or country wide for that matter?

Open to suggestions.

No suggestion other than getting more estimates. The last time we moved years ago, we took the first one in the yellow pages. Remember those? I think it was called AAA or something like that. Anyway, it was just an across town move but 85 meters worth of stuff and furniture. I think we paid 1,200 DM. The flat we left was 6th floor with no lift.

Crazy price unless, say, unless grand piano involved. As FF said can only advise look around. Ask colleagues, neighbours. Is it too much for you to hire a van and do it yourself? With a couple of friends helping?

That price is completely over the top!

Ask other companies...

In my universe, friends don't ask friends to help them move after the age of 35.

When I was (around) 36, a nice lady asked me if my DL is valid for a 7ton truck (yes, it is), because her DL wasn't, and she needed to haul a sh!tload of stuff from A to B... So I said yes, my DL is valid for that, I did that driver's job as a courtesy, and my remuneration (at the end of the day) was a very very decent and relaxing "Boris Johnson"... :-)

Those were the days...

We used myhammer.de to get quotes for an international move out of Germany and it was a lot less than that!

Will it all fit in a long wheel base Sprinter?
