I discovered you do not have to be a UK resident to buy a Railcard which costs £30 p.a. There are various categories, most which give you a third off rail tickets.

Have bought tickets for 3 journeys when I'm visting friends next week and my Senior card has already paid for itself.

I wouldn't use Train line unless they have changed their business model as they take, or used to take, a hefty commission on top of the ticket price.

I bought my rail card from https://www.railcard.co.uk/ - use their App to store your railcard

I live in the GWR region, so tend to use their website https://www.gwr.com/ for most purchases but have also used https://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/ when booking while at one of the kids' houses.

Both organisations have good Apps with live train times etc as well

Yes, Trainline charges a commission. Trouble is, there are so many separate regional companies with their own websites and deals it feels you need a degree in logistics to figure out the best deals!

It is true that various firms have different deals but I think they each allow you to book other operators' tickets these days - long time since I tried though.

And yes, the ticketing prices, offers, etc is a complete nightmare
