AER and Rendite

Probably a Kindergarten level question!
Does Rendite in German mean the same as the AER which is usually given in English sources?
Am trying to decide on a new Tagesgeld Konto, which as well as having different rates for new and old customers, have different interest intervals (weekly, monthly, annual) I always assumed the shorter the interval the better, but I see on some comparison tables the annual Rendite result can be pretty similar. So is this the more important factor to take into account, rather than just the offered interesr rates?
