I hope you're all well and enjoying the fine weather, but for me the forecast for the next few days looks unpleasant (what can I say, I'm from Yorkshire, we don't much get high 20s, not to mention 30s).
Do any of you kind souls know of places - apart from cinemas - where I can cool down? Ideally a cafe where I can work for a bit as well in return for buying something, but I could be glad of a quiet crypt or anywhere it isn't so hot for a bit. I tried the local library but it was a sealed box so unbearably airless - and it didn't seem to offer power points for my ageing laptop. Are any other libraries better?
Thanks!
(PS I wouldn't normally approve of air-con, but needs must, and if someone has it anyway, I'll take it!)

In Munich, we have only had the occasional hot days. I've only turned on my air con 3 times for one day only. I had no idea it was so hot in Berlin. I hope you approve.

The local sauna? Bear with me: they won't have air con however they'll have some ice cold plunge pools which you can sit/stand in for seconds/minutes. They may also have an area outside the sauna where you can sit and work with a laptop, get coffee etc.

Buildings with thick stone walls remain cooler in the heat. Churches are the obvious ones, and if you find an open one they might be quite happy with you there - it is certainly a service to the surrounding community, after all. No doubt Berlin has its share of other old stone buildings, some of which may have an open access foyer type of arrangement where you could go for a while. I used to sit in a shopping centre which had A/C on the hottest days with the kids - that's noisy, obv.
I hope you find something - the majority of my time in the UK was spent oop North, and we do flag in the heat.....thankfully we have a cellar.

Thanks so much for the ideas, PandaMunich, Fraufruit, alma.freya and kiplette! I'll see if either of the unis will let me in. Failing that, Munich here I come!
LOL @Franklan!

Why not buy a simple fan? I have one which I put on the desk next to me when I am working. It will cost less then 20 euros.

Definitely an option, Colin, if I can bring myself to go out to the shops!

Germany, the land of no a/c…. I usually go down into the subway station to cool off. The last days were terrible.
