device not connecting to the home WiFi

Post by Alberto »

In the last 1 month I'm on my 3rd device no longer connecting to the home WiFi. A 2nd robot vacuum cleaner (brand new, prior to this it was another vacuum cleaner, same maker, Eufy, and an Epsom printer)
It says "experiencing issues with your network, check the password, get nearer, or reboot".
Of course I rebooted many times already (both the device and the router).
I also reset the device back to factory settings (by long pressing the main button), didn't help either.
The router works on 2.4GHz, as needed.
Using very same password that other devices (laptop) find ok.
And I stand 50cm from the router.
Driving me crazy.
Any clue?
Thanks

And it drives me crazy when people ask for help with their router and do not provide the vital information what brand/model it is...

Try disabling WPA3 in the Wifi setting of the router, only do WPA2.

I suspect your new devices want to access WLan/WiFi on the 5 GHz band, so please turn that on in your access point/on your FritzBox!

You can run both Wifi bands (different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz) at the same time on a FritzBox.

Thanks but no, the manufacturer, Eufy, says the device runs only on 2.4 GHz

Hm, have connected Eufy devices before. You’re right, the devices only talk to the 2.4 GHz band. What did Eufy support say?

The Eufy app needs Location Services activated. But since you say more devices have problems connecting to the WiFi the problem is probably in the Router configuration.

I never solved the thing with two of our laptops refusing to connect to the wifi. Even my clever computer literate son failed. He did all the things suggested. Oh well. I am using a cable, but that does not always work either. I do have an alternative, but smaller screen. Sigh.

Franklan, most of us average people are rather computer illiterate. I still refer to my 'Computer for Dummies' book. Or was it for Idiots? Perhaps it was titled, 'Computers for Hondos'. Regardless, it was no until about three year ago that I learned I could access my router from my PC.

Alberto might no be aware of this and may require a few more step-by-step to help the lad change the settings.

Even I can't recall exactly how.

If you can log into the user interface of the Fritzbox from any PC or phone, you could check that the "Allow all new wireless devices" option is checked:

1. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
2. Click "Security" in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
3. Click "Restrict Access to Wi-Fi".
4. Enable the option "Allow all new wireless devices".
5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

I was at work, using my mobile phone in a break when I wrote this. Now that I am at home, here is a screenshot:

Set this to "WPA2 (CCMP)", as some older WiFi-Stacks choke on "WPA2 + WPA3".

The same might be true in your case. I have an older Dell-Laptop which FFS cannot connect when the router is set to "WPA2 + WPA3".

They suggested to take the steps that I had taken already 🤕

And thanks for explaining how to connect to the router and change the settings. I actually knew this already. But fair for you guys to expect I did NOT know it

Thanks again for help so far.
Just wanted to say I'm on a business trip and won't do anything on this issue until at least Friday when I'm back home. I'll report here soon afterwards.

Just for info because people are sharing fritzbox info here. You can change the language of the user-interface to English on most of the modern routers from them (including the 7510 the OP is using).

Instructions in German
And in English

I was a few days away on business. Now back home, I checked the WPA and I happen to have WPA2. I also have 2.4GHz (the one Eufy needs), not 5GHz. Still not connecting. Mega frutrated.
