Not a lot, but I thought I'd start the ball rolling for the central regions

Nice to see that somebody has finally posted in the middle section, but surely, you are not alone Tap, or are you?!
If so, I would invite you to join "us southerners" any time you like!

Hi Rob,
Happy to see you found your way here.
There are some people on here from "the middle", maybe they just need a bit more time. If not, I'll be flying the flag alone

Well, since my middle regions seem to be spreading, I thought I would mention it here and see if anybody else is suffering from middle-age-spread?

Greetings from Cologne ... Casual user of Toytown and only realised today it was gone; although it's been 'down' for a while.
I really hope this new site works as alternatives such as Reddit are opinion-focused not facts and pretty toxic at times. Facebook ... pah. Not for me.
So good luck to whomever is running the site... but maybe time to change the name? Where did 'Toytown' come from anyway? I used to live in Switzerland and at least their 'Local' site name made sense
"English Forum Switzerland"
Watching and I'll contribute more if it helps to get the site going

Where did 'Toytown' come from anyway?
I think ToyTown was created in Munich as a forum for foreigners, and apparently the creator felt or had heard that Munich was like a toy town, i.e. fairy-tale/perfect.

I always thought it was a riff on the Spielzeugmuseum in Munich.

Look at this link from an internet archive:
https://web.archive.org/web/20230316105 ... ction.html
History of the site:
TT was dreamt up and created by Editor Bob in August 2002, together with help from co-administrator Malcolm Spudbury. Originally TT was a Munich-specific website. Due to popular demand the site expanded in April 2006 to cover the whole of Germany. From 2002 to 2008 TT was owned and run by Bob as a one-man business. In January 2009 the site partnered with The Local. The site is now operated out of their headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. Funding comes via advertising.
Origin of the name "Toytown":
The name came from the observation that Munich is not a real town. Real towns have litter, crime, visible poverty, heroin addicts lurking at the railway station, vomit on the pavements, and so on. Munich has none of this. Munich is not real. It's an ideological town where everything is perfect. The environment is clean, crime is very low, and the public transport runs on time to the second. In general, the quality of life here is very high. In early 2006 the website expanded to cover the whole of Germany. The name "Toytown" was preserved for the sake of branding.

Howdy, fellow Middlers. Still cold, windy, and rainy here on the outskirts of Bonn. We've had a few sunny days to tease us about warm weather but at least spring daffodils, hyacinths, magnolias etc. are putting on a lovely show.

Since we only have north, south and middle, I'm sure you are in the right topic here.
Maybe the powers that be should add the wild west and far east as well?

This morning (clear weather) I can see Bonn, or at least the Siebengebierge all the way from my place in glorious Eifel...about 30 miles east of me as the crow flies, so you're definitely "in the middle".

Howdy, fellow Middlers. ..
Howdy from Cologne 'up the road'. I'll be starting work (home based) for a company with HQ in Bonn so pleased to eMeet you.
I'm also doing the Bonn half marathon next month if you're a sporty type ... or a 'plodder'

Thanks Kiplette. Good to see so you too and many familiar names on here.
A HUGE thanks to whoever has started this forum.
I was missing TT as well as the vast store of information it contained. I was actually wondering why no-one at the Local posted on TT asking if any of us would buy the forum from them if it was so much hassle. I'd have been happy to contribute.
I only found this place thanks to a google search (I'm not on any other social media), and clearly it'll take someone with my limited IT skills a while to get the hang of things (searching existing topics, how to quote, how to recommend etc), but it's great that it has been resurrected.
I imagine several posts have already identified the person(s) who have saved this community, but I haven't quite got the hang of finding my way around yet, so thanks again anyway.
Very glad to be back.
