For anybody who is not really keeping an eye on such things, I thought I would mention that the clocks change this coming Sunday, March 31st 2024.

At 2am the clocks will be changed forward to 3am.

I don´t like the changes, and do not consider them to be necessary these days, but it´s not my choice!
I just like to be aware of when it´s going to happen - again!

I'm reminded of the scene from Trainspotting 2 in which a character is an hour late for some important events, resulting in a cascade of dire consequences:

I'm team summertime.

In the summer, wintertime results in the sun rising at 3am. This period of daylight is of no use to anyone, because we're all (99% of us at least) still sleeping. Whereas summertime in the summer results in much longer evenings, and as people are already awake, this daylight has more value.

Winter is always going to be depressing regardless of the time because there is never enough daylight.

I think this site is still on winter time?

I'm pleased that the clock on the oven I neglected to change over the past 6 months is now right again

Just in case anybody missed it, the clocks changed last night!!!

I figured it out when I slept until noon.

On Sunday, 26th October, I'm putting my clocks back to the 70s. Life was better back in those days.

Once again, the annual ritual of the oven clock becoming “right” is worth celebrating- cheers!

My wife teaches remotely students in other parts of the world.
Some change time summer/winter when we do.
Some don't change it.
Some change it, but on a different weekend.
Compound to the different time zones, there's always some confusion and some meetings get missed.

I get it! In Armenia they dispensed with this. So part of the year we are 3 hours apart from the family, and as of yesterday we are just 2 hours apart. . Also, his year we changed clocks here almost a month after they did in the US, which meant I had to be very proactive in order not to mess up the timing for regularly scheduled Zoom meetings. I wish we could just get rid of time changing overall.

While of course its just a pain to change the clocks, I think we should at least remember the reasons why we do it.

1) Its estimated, that many many children, are still alive today, because they can go to school/come home in the light meaning less accidents, more of the time at least, rather than having day light savings time (DST).
2) The energy saved by people not needing to switch the lights on, during the day, saves the need to have more power stations, thus reducing pollution. Sure with the introduction of LED lights, this impact is less than when I was young.
3 ) People, who are on the sides of time zones, suffer more than at the center of the time zone, as they get more dark hours in which they are required to do their jobs.

I do not really like day light saving time either, but you have to weigh it against the benefits. We need to remember DST, came into law for good reasons.

I think we should force the manufactures of ovens, watches, alarm clocks etc, to have software that will automatically change the time, rather than you having to do it, and thus make it less hassle.

I'm not sure these are true today

1. Studies have shown that children are more affected by the change of the hour rather that the darkness and there are not so many accidents involving children going to or from school.

2. There's only less than 1% change in energy consumption when the clocks change.

3. Not sure about this one, it may be true, but apparently, there are more accidents at work due to the hour change until people get used to it.

I was tired last week, so I went to bed early on Friday and Saturday evening, I've hardly noticed the change in the time, except that my oven is telling the "right" time now.

Interesting, I was only quoting what my mother told me, when I was about 15 or so.

Maybe things are different these days.
