LOL!
Einzug der Wies'nwirte: The female moderator about Oktoberfest and socializing:
"Du kommst als Fremder und gehst als Freund!"
That's the catch-phrase of the Leierkasten since forever - the famous brothel in the Ingolstädter Straße near Euro-Industriepark, Munich...

For years, Irish police (the Garda Síochána) believed that a driver named Prawo Jazdy was one of the country’s most notorious traffic offenders, with over 50 recorded violations. Eventually, they realized the mistake: Prawo Jazdy isn’t a person at all: it’s simply the Polish phrase for “driver’s license.”
This mix-up became one of the more memorable stories in the history of Irish traffic enforcement. As Ireland’s immigrant population grew in the early 2000s, Polish nationals made up a significant portion of new residents. Many of them carried Polish driver’s licenses, which prominently displayed the words Prawo Jazdy.
Because the phrase appears in bold at the top of the license, Irish officers unfamiliar with the language mistook it for the individual’s name. Over time, “Prawo Jazdy” accumulated dozens of citations across different parts of the country, leading to internal reports that described him as a repeat offender who seemed to evade serious penalties.
The error only came to light when an officer with some knowledge of Polish pointed out that Prawo Jazdy literally translates to “driver’s license.” Once recognized, the Garda corrected its database, but not before the story made headlines and became a running joke in both Ireland and Poland.

Took me a minute. "Ages" came to me quickly," but the dreaded "c-word" took me a bit. The "neighbor" vs "neighbor" helped me shift too. Separated by a common language and all that stuff comes to mind.

(Neighbours needs an apostrophe!)

Look, I started the
German word of the day thread. I am contemplating to start an "English word of the day" thread so that the Irish, British, Australian and the 'muricans can beat the shit out of each other, discussing who's right and who's wrong...
I mean, lets start with the word "fanny" and its different meaning... And the fact that Brits visiting Germany have a ball when they see that the German supermarkets have chips called "Funny fresh"...
