Until quite recently it was believed that embryos at about 6 or 7 weeks were default female. That is, that n the absence of genes to start the bioligical process of developing testis etc, the embryo was default female. Research has now proved that incorrect: developing the female structures from the undifferentiated bits also requires an active process. So, we all start off, when we are teeny tiny, with undifferentiated sex organs. Active processes then happen that set one or the other in motion. Our sex is determined at conception. Which is why you can have sex typing of tiny embryos in order to select to select to avoid a nasty sex-linked diseases. There are obviously rare chromosomal cock ups, that produce anomalies. Though even most if not all of them, you can determine the sex of the person the anomaly has happened to.

This does not have anything to do with people feeling feminine, or masculine or neither. That is fine, but something else.

It seems hard to determine the small babies sex, until after 6 or 7 weeks, and maybe as long as 11 weeks.

This is normally done by looking for common male/female features at a certain age with things like Ultra sound. So this is not tested, on things in the blood or other measures. Therefore we have no really way to say the sex until this time.

However this does not answer the question, is the sex on a child male or female at contraception, I cannot find anything to support it or not.

I want to find an example were eg unfortunately a women dies in a car car crash, they tested the fetus for something and could see the sex of the 3 weeks old fetus from blood or something else in the body of the fetus.

Given all of this, and without any other information, you should not give a fetus any sex assignment, until you really can see whats developing inside the woman.

This is like the question pregnant women always get asked, will it be a boy or a girl, and its just to early to know before 6 to 11 weeks, as nobody would suggest surgery to find it out.

Until we get a test for this, the fetus sex, it "IT", until time passes and we can tell it.

We may never know at what stage of the process the sex is defined, either at contraception of another process after wards.

Given all of this, and without any other information, you should not give a fetus any sex assignment, until you really can see whats developing inside the woman.

A long time ago, I helped a he/she/it who had a flat tire on the car.

It is obviously useful for couples trying to avoid dreadful sex linked inherited disease, but also now being used commonly for people wanting a boy or a girl, whatever. But they can do it. These are really young embryos. You know, XX or XY. Sex is determined at conception.

I tend to think so as well.

If a woman goes to a doctor and says am I pregnant, the doctor can answer yes or no after a couple of weeks following sex
If a woman goes to a doctor and says will it be a boy or girl, the doctor will not know, because in the early weeks there is no test that can show this.

But I still think its determined on the night of conception, its just we do not have a way to prove it yet, but I could be wrong.
