Why would I?
In American English, "football" is "American football".
Elsewhere, "football" is what is called "Fußball" in German.
"Soccer" sounds like an insult to me...

Ha, many many years ago I tried renaming a really badly named topic, but accidentally also accidentally changed ONE word to UK spelling. You sorted it fast though.

Americans abroad:

"What you call football is that stupid boring game where one is not allowed to touch the ball with ones hands. What we call football is the real thing, because our ball isn't shaped like a ball and one is allowed to touch this egg shaped thing with your hands".

TBF I remember English snobs always called it Soccer because to them Rugger was always the real football. It was a real class divider when I was young.(I am old)

I was caught up in the moment and just thought maybe the whole gang was rooting in unison. I watch sports about once a year at most and there were watch parties here at the Bauernhof where we are vacationing with 4 other families. Was a fun activity.

Yesterdays game for 3rd/4th place was by far the most riveting game of this tournament.

England 6 - France 4

Usually the game for 3rd/4th place is boring, but this one was very impressive.

Next game: Tonight, 2100, Argentina - Spain.

It was marvellous.

Actual sport being played, fun being had.

Tonight's will presumably be less cool.
