AW was many things, but people are too hard on her. She was very much free speech. And (despite her objections to gay marriage) had many gay friends and supported them when they were struggling during Operation Midland.

No 78-year-old woman deserves to die a violent death.

Whatever your politics.

Irish actress Brenda Fricker, at the age of 81. She was known for her Academy Award winning role as the mother of Christy Brown in My Left Foot and she also starred in Home Alone 2. She's better known to Irish and UK viewers from TV series like Casulty.

She was a great actress, very down to earth and honest.

Yes, Brenda Fricker was the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award ("Oscar"), earning the award for Best Supporting Actress for the biopic My Left Foot (1989).

But she is probably remembered by most folks as the "pidgeon lady" from "Home alone 2":

TV presenter and comedian Bill Oddie has died at the age of 85, his agent has said.

I remember him from the 1970's comedy show The Goodies.

He was my favourite Goodie, that's really sad.

Gunther von Hagens died at 81.

He was a German anatomist, businessman, and lecturer. He developed the technique for preserving biological tissue specimens called plastination. Von Hagens has organized numerous Body Worlds public exhibitions and occasional live demonstrations of his and his colleagues' work, and has traveled worldwide to promote its educational value. The sourcing of biological specimens for and the commercial background of his exhibits has been controversial.

I found it gruesome and voyeuristic. My son's class went to the place in HD that had this, he was about 13 years old? (Bad mother). He did not enjoy it, especially the dead pregnant woman with her abdomen etc flapped open and dead baby exposed. Of course the subjects all consented but not quite sure of its purpose. Frightfully clever though.

I've just read this on social media, it's awful. That video of Shane MacGowan's funeral is so wonderful, it makes me cry every time I watch it.

This is indeed a very sad day.
