Sorry to hear about your little guy.
Sometimes I think that losing a dog can be worse than losing a human... ours is 12 1/2 and also has lung cancer, along with an massively enlarged heart and epilepsy. He's so full of joy and love (and clearly not suffering) I just can't imagine the day he is no longer there.

Thanks. Just been extra busy looking in horror at the US from afar.
Old Drumpf is really pushing the boat out this time!

This article is kind of sobering :( and I'm wondering what our local Icelandic guy here on TT thinks about it.

The world is about to end too, isn't it? 8-)

Since the beginning of TV, it's always been in English with subtitles except for the news and handful of local movies or shows. Since the beginning of computers, the operating systems and programs were always in English too. When I went to university in the 90's, the majority of our textbooks were in English. When my brother got the idea in the early 2000's to send his American kids to Iceland for a year, they did not learn the language because all the kids in 7th and 8th grade spoke English to them. In 2025, my sisters grandkids speak Icelandic just fine. I have never heard them speak English to each other (mentioned in the article). I wonder if that might happen when one or more in a group of kids are immigrants. The population of Iceland is around 18% immigrants, many of whom do just fine without learning the language, kind of like here. Immigrant kids who go to school there do reach at least a conversational level but not always a level that is good enough to go to high school, kind of like here.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is happening all over the U.S. every day.

The reason they vaccinate even pre schoolers and school kids in the US and UK for flu is they are regarded as super-spreaders. But difficult to know what to do otherwise. Perhaps not see them when they have snuffles? But with young children, this is tricky. I got frequently quite ill when I went back to work and baby at 6 months went to nursery. She was there 2.5 years. TBH I am not sure why I did this now. In London after childcare I had 5 quid left a day. But my immune system probably super boosted. I hope.
