I know haven't posted in a while. I'm bummed because our bully boy died a few weeks ago, and my wife isn't ready for a new dog. She works a lot, and the house gets lonely. He died at 13 from metastatic lung cancer. Fast and aggressive. He didn't suffer.
Sorry to hear about your little guy.
Sometimes I think that losing a dog can be worse than losing a human... ours is 12 1/2 and also has lung cancer, along with an massively enlarged heart and epilepsy. He's so full of joy and love (and clearly not suffering) I just can't imagine the day he is no longer there.
