I'm really sad to read this, I just listened to a podcast with George Wendt called "Where everybody knows your name" It's hosted by Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson. There's also an episode with Kelsey Grammer (Fraiser).

I am a great fan of those half hour American sit coms. Cheers was one of the first and one of the best. When I am in a bar, I somtimes use a line that he used when taking a beer . I look at the beer longingly and say
"Komm zu Pappi , komm zu Pappi". This gets a smile from the barperson. I then follow it with
"Daddy liebt dich".
And finally "Ich möchte ein kind von dir". Here it is very important to look at the beer and not the barmaid. Or, God forbid, the barman.

I have only just found out that George Wendt is the uncle of Jason Sudeikis of Ted Lasso fame.

Well you can find quite a lot of olderTV shows on youtube, that play for free and of course in English



OR just goto www.youtube.com and search for cheers, somethimes you just get to see clips, while other times you have the full show.

There are also many streaming sites, that you can watch it on, but you will probably need a subscription and maybe a VPN

Lorreta Swift was best known as "Hot Lips" Houlihan from the TV show M.A.S.H. What a great name. Yet another very funny half hour comedy show from America: Where are they these days?

I agree. Most of the more recent funny soaps do not match up. Please, please someone tell me I am wrong and suggest good ones to watch. (There is good stuff to watch, just not this sort of stuff).

Apart the usual suspects ( Big Bang Theory, The Office - usa version, Monk) I found really entertaining the ones below:

- Community (but it take a while till it grows on you)

The era of physical media like CDs or DVD is coming to an end.
But streaming hasn't kill it yet.

Which means that this pysical stuff is sold for bargain prices at the moment.

Be aware that DVDs of American TV-shows sold in Germany usually have the original audio plus the German audio, and subtitles (for the deaf/hardhearing) both in English and German on it.

Let's take a look at this bargain:

We are talking about less than 2€ per DVD.

1.) You cannot buy used DVDs for that price, even at a flea market.
2.) Once you've watch the shows, you can still sell them on Ebay for a decent price.
3.) You have the option to watch it with German audio and English subtitles (a little bit of fiddling with the DVD player) to improve your German. The jokes aren't lost, as he still hates to be a shoe sales man, she hates being his wife, the daughter is dumb, and the son wants to be "himalayan".

Many years ago I bought the complete set of "Dad's Army" DVDs which still get played during deepest Winter. Not available with German subtitles (surprise) although it does have English ones.

Somehow I never got around to acquiring the DVD set of "Are you being Served".

2 Euros per DVD, but it's take 10, pay 10 Euros!
