I check the supermarket brochures every Sunday, and then write (and print) my shopping list for the next week.
So I've printed something useful and the printer doesn't get clogged up.

Unless I had to print something else during the week. Then I write the shopping list by hand...

Never had a problem with our almost 10 year old laser printer "clogging up" and we only use it about once a month or less.

At a minimum we each print some hobby related material on an ongoing basis. 😃🙏🏻

I print regularly. Once a year. The good old laser just keeps going. On a 10 year old toner cartridge too.

It's also worth keeping your printer and scanner separate. 2 devices. If one goes wrong, just change that one.

I actually use a scan app in my phone. It optimises the result for a clear black and white image, it crops to the paper edges, and makes PDFs too. And I "Share to PC" from the app if I need to save it. I've even needed to scan stuff when out and about, in a car too. I normally have my phone with me. Even if you already have a scanner, it's a handy back up. Jus' sayin'.

A couple years ago we needed to print something out and discovered, yet again, that our printer was out of some colour we didn't even need, and so would have had to pay the gougers yet again for more ink.

Hadn't used the bloody thing in ages anyway, so it was with much pleasure I took it outside, stuck a notice on it saying FREE, needs only ink - and let it be someone else's problem.

On the rare occasions since then that we need to print something out, we just walk over to the local Edeka, plug 10 measely cents a sheet into their machine, and make the copy from a USB stick.
