I assume they are really old, maybe at least >100 y/o and they didn't started as the supermarkets we know nowadays, but instead just a group of guys trading "colonial" goods (sugar, coffee, tea, spices, etc).

I think Rewe started the same way, as a form of cooperative. Not sure if any trace of that is left under the Rewe brand but the Nahkauf stores still operate this way I believe.

Very attractive coupon available for Yello Strom currently in the PayBack app if anyone is looking for a new provider. They are competitive in my region. Without PayBack they offer a 10% discount, so the 30k points are costing you this discount. We have a usage of ca. 6,500kWh (we have no gas and heat 3 floors with electricity) so we get the max 30k points. A 10% discount is wort ca. €240 to us a year. 30k points are worth at the very least €300, but should be worth more than double that to us when used as M&M airmiles.

This coupon is only valid until tomorrow. If using it, be sure to activate it, accept all cookies on the Yello site and be sure that Yello indicates that the 30k points will be credited. They do this before you even start to enter your details. You just need to enter your PLZ and annual consumption and they will show you how many PB points they will give you. They will also show yourr PB account number. The points appear in your PB account minutes after you complete the online application. Our contract runs out at the end of April. Nobody really knows what will happen with electricity prices between now and then but I like to switch a few months out because you can let the new company cancel for you. If you leave it too tight you have to cancel the old contract yourself and you may slide into the Grundversorgung if the new company is not quick enough with setting up your new account. That happened to me once. I'm happy to lock into the Yello price right now. It's about €40 a month less than we are currently paying.

As usual, be careful with electricity providers. There are lots of black sheep in that sector that suddenly go bankrupt and you never see your promised boni. Many also "forget" to apply boni and discounts. I was burned when BEV went bust so I am always careful to make sure I always have a Nachzahlung to pay. Insist on reducing the monthly payment to a level that is below your actual average usage to minimise your exposure in the case of bankrupty.

Dunno if it´s for you, but I spend some of my free time on the Swagbucks website, and regularly get Amazon vouchers from them.
They have an "introduce a friend" thing, where I could get €1 (!)

You can get (almost) 10x PayBack points on WGS through PayBack Prämien at the moment. I say "almost" because when you buy gift cards through the Prämienshop you are forced to use a minimum of 200 PayBack points. But the rest you can pay in cash!

So go to you PayBack coupons, enable the coupon under "Pramien" for WGS, click through to the Prämienshop, buy the max amount (usually 5 of each Wertstufe) giving you €975 (5x100, 5x50, 5x25, 5x15, 5x5) of Amazon credit and IIRC 4865 PB points, less the 200 you have to use equals 4665 PB points. It's obviously not as good a straight 16x PB points but I take the 10x deals too sometimes if I run out. We are probably going to see fewer 16x deals now that Penny and Rewe are gone anyway.

The "small crap" €5, €15 and €25 vouchers can simply be lodged to the Shoppingkonto service from WGS. Then you can create €50 gift cards out of those small ones. I now usually pay all my WGS straight in to the Shoppingkonto and then create the real gift cards from there. You can pay all the WGS gift cards into the Shoppingkonto in one go. You don't need to watch the daily limits, but you still need to watch them when creating gift cards out of the Shoppingkonto.

If you have never used the Shoppingkonto I suggest you try it with about €50 worth of "small crap". You will not regret it. I still don't leave credit in the Shoppingkonto for more than a few days as it's not a bank account. I don't know if WGS is going to suddenly go bust etc. so I take no chances and convert it all promptly to amazon, Kaufland etc.
