Curtains, soft furnishings, where to donate?

Post by Feierabend »

Which charity shops in Berlin welcome these kind of donations?
I have a pile of decent quaity lined curtains with proper gathered headings, (not flimsy Gardinen.) And scatter cushions, stuff like that.
I usually donate clothes to Oxfam or Humana, but they don't seem to want household stuff. Have googled a bit but as I live out of town don't want to lug around a heavy bag and then find the shop is only open a few hours per week. Any tips welcome!

Exactly. While this is only about second hand clothes, you might want to give them a bell and ask where you can donate curtains or cushions...

Thank you. I looked at their websites but they only seem to want money donations and volunteers. One has a Caritasmarkt for household things but their warehouse is full and it's in Ingolstadt!
I'll ring the local branch anyway to see if they have a suggestion.

Couple of thoughts....

The Kleiderspende bins where the glass containers are. If we have them in the Allgäu, one would think Berlin as well. Aye, these are not clothes, but I'm sure the Red Cross can sort them out.

Again the Allgäu... we have two Facebook groups that offer the ability to give up one's items for free. I believe one is even called "Free your stuff" Yes, in English. The Allgäu never ceases to surprise... If we have these, perhaps Berlin as well.

Lastly, the Werstoffhof. I took some old curtains there once. They were taken away to a room where people in need can collect them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd rather guve to a shop if poss.Trouble with these big container collections is that I think items can only get looked at very quickly and then probably mostly relegated to recycling. In charity shops the customer can browse and use their imagination a bit and come out with a good cheap buy.
