Getting keys cut

I would like to get a spare set of keys made as a precaution to losing the originals. I live in a block of flats so there are 2 keys. One for the communal door and one for my own door. I got my own door key cut without any problem, but the communal key is proving more difficult. The mann said something about getting permission from someone and might cost a lot more than my own door key.
What does it cost to get a locksmith to come round and get me back in if I lose my keys? A lot , I am guessing.
And what should I do about the communal key?

Communal keys have to be ordered from the HVW or landlord and they do cost a bit. A lot cheaper than a locksmith, though.

You cannot get them "cut". Believe me, we tried all over Asia and everywhere to get some made. They are very specialized and come from a particular company.

I had a similar problem some years ago. I did have two keys for the coummunal door, but I wanted two more spares - one for my daughter and one for my son, just in case. The local key smiths wouldn't do it, but I found an online service, which kopied the original key and sent it back with the spares pretty quick. It's legal. Of course, it's pretty tricky for you if you've only got the one key, with which you would have to part with for a couple of days.

How do I write this without sounding condescending..... This is a really bad idea. This is the old, retired investigator thinking. A good key cutting machine cost around 1500€. So, these are affordable to the criminal lot. They have your key and address. See where this leads? As one is no in their shop watching, what stops them from making several copies? Moreover, the address to where the key belongs is known.

If this is to be a last ditch effort to get a copy made, I would recommend using a mate's address or postfach.

Unless one has done their due diligence on the owner of the website and business, I would absolutely avoid doing this. Too risky.

Thanks for pointing out the risk. Obviously I was lucky. Besides, It wasn't the key to my flat, which isn't one of those Sicherheitsschlüssel.
