For a long time, I've been trying to figure out the best legal way to work on my own projects while keeping my full-time job as a software engineer.
I'm building subscription-based SaaS web and mobile apps. My employer has already given me permission to have a side business, as long as I only work on my own products and not for external clients that could compete with the company.
My current plan is to start with a Gewerbe and, if everything goes well, later convert it into a UG or GmbH.
I have two questions:
1. Since a Gewerbe means I'm personally liable, I'm wondering whether it's worth getting business insurance. From what I've researched, Berufshaftpflichtversicherung seems to cover many common risks. Do you have business insurance for your side projects? If so, which type would you recommend?
2. I don't want to publish my home address in the Impressum, so I'm considering renting a business address that I can use for my company. Do any of you use a virtual/business address for your projects, or do you simply use your private home address?
