Bringing non-EU (UK) parents to Germany

Post by Eric7 »

I'm sure this has been discussed before but can't find anything on here about it.

One of my friends has lost both of his parents with the last 18 months and that has got me thinking about how I would deal with my parents dying, or rather if just one of them goes.
Dad is 80 & mum is 79 and they currently live in Spain. My dad is still very active and does does all the shopping, house maintenance, driving etc. Mum is still mobile but clearly relies on him for a lot of things. My main worry is if he goes before she does, I don't think she could cope and would definitely require outside help. I'm sure that in terms of physical things, he would be fine on his own.

Is there any possibility of bringing her to Germany in the case of my dad going first? I understand health insurance is an issue and that is currently covered by the UK thanks to some post-Brexit agreement. They are both Spanish residents - is there a restriction on how much time she could spend in Germany and still be covered by her current health cover?
I hate the idea of a "carer". My experience has been that the old people supposedly being looked after are often abused, their possessions stolen and their money miked until it runs out.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience in this area?
When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
