Kindergeld for a Duales Studium student?

Post by Nixon »

Hello all,

Our daughter has finished Gymnasium and she is accepted for Duales Studium with Allianz.
Until this June we were receiving Kindergeld for her too, but starting July it stopped.

I know that students are receiving it, but how it will work for her now since she will have income from the company?
I am hoping she can start receiving Kindergeld directly, and report it as her income, not us.

Thanks,

Nixon.

A quick google for Duales Studium Kindergeld brings up lots of info, eg:

Clearly yes is the answer to the entitlement.
Obviously you can transfer the money diectly to her, or she can ask to have it paid directly.Whether you can avoid that counting as your income am not clear

Kindergeld is not income.

All that happens in your tax return is that they compare your Kindergeld amount with the tax amount you would save through the Kinderfreibetrag.
And if the latter is more (which only happens with high earners), you save that tax amount, but in turn repay the Kindergeld in your income tax Bescheid.

Thanks Feierabend, I know that she will keep getting it but the tricky part is in what Panda was mentioning.

Panda, it sounds like high earners are saving more through Kinderfreibetrag than with getting Kindergeld?
How the tax filing will work for us now? I thought she would be a separate entity since she will have good income (more than minimum wage).

Yes.

The same it was.
She remains as a "child" on your tax return (in Anlage Kind) until she finishes her education or reaches age 25, whatever happens first.
If she lives away from home while in education, you also get to claim for the Ausbildungsfreibetrag: https://www-vlh-de.translate.goog/wisse ... r_pto=wapp

She is her own entity in that she can file her own tax return, but that doesn't change that she is also a child on your tax return.

Her own income is irrelevant for that, no matter how much she earns, you will still get Kindergeld (or the tax benefit of the Kinderfreibetrag) for her: https://familienportal.de/familienporta ... at--124940
