Re: Why are you unhappy today?

Poxy internet!

I've got Telekom Glasfaser and a Fritzbox 5590.
Since last June, up until 17:30 today it worked flawlessly - 600 Mbp/s download and 300 Mbp/s upload. The line actually shows available capacity at 2.5 Gbp/s down and 1.5 Gbp/s up.
I was uploading a chunky 6GB work file and the server estimated it would take about 5 minutes... all good!
Suddenly, the estimate shot up to 125 hours ( ) and then basically ground to a complete halt.
A quick speed test showed my connection was now only 0.01 Mbp/s, although the Fritzbox was still showing a connection of over 600 Mbp/s.
I did the usual steps - restarted the router and all the hubs. Restarted my Mac and another PC - no change.
Got on the phone with Telekom and they could measure the speed coming into the Fritbox at nearly 670 Mbp/s.
Telekom guy recommended a full works reset of the Fritzbox which I've now done - no change.

I've ordered a replacement Fritzbox in case it's kaputt but in the meantime do any of the forum tech geniuses have any other ideas?

This page took a very long time to load....

Do you have an Ethernet cable? If so, turn the Wi-Fi off on your computer and plug the computer in to the Fritzbox using the Ethernet cable and do another speed test. If it improves, perhaps the issue is with the Fritzbox's Wi-Fi.

I've got 10 gig ethernet. It's the same over ethernet or Wi-Fi.
The fact that it's crap over Wi-Fi leads me to discount a problem with my ethernet network and that it's crap over ethernet leads me to believe the Wi-Fi isn't the problem either.
AVM want to discount there being an error with the box. Telekom say the 5590 has loads of problems. Pass the parcel!

The new Fritzbox has just turned up... now to try and get it activated for the Glasfaser.

Re: Why are you unhappy today? A colonoscopy

Post by colincostello »

Had a colonoscopy yesterday. Not very nice. Seven polpys were found and removed so I am glad I did it. The worst part is not the examination itself, but rather the laxative that I had to take to clear the colon. I had to stay near the toilet to avoid any accidents. I was not happy.
But I still maintained my sense of humour. As the consultant withdrew the thin tube, I said
"Has anyone ever told you that you can be a right pain in the arse. " Well , all the team had a good laugh at that.

Mine was much less pleasant and inconclusive. That after drinking all that crap and sitting on the toilet for 9 hours. Doctor shamed me and said my colon wasn't clean enough. Not to mention stuff running down my leg all the way home. Now I get to have a CT.

Ain't getting old fun?

Sorry to here about that Frau Fruit. And you are right. Getting old is no fun, especially when you have been good at sport like I was.
I am reminded of that song by Bruce called Glory Days.

Sorry to hear that FrauFruit. I had a colonoscopy a few years ago, recommended cos dad died of bowel cancer, and the actual procedure was totally fine as they knocked me out briefly. But the drink prep was horrendous, 4 litres of that disgusting weird tasting solution throughout the night. I am not a large person and I projectile vomited up the last litre.
I couldn't face having to do that again.

Last night I realised many (most?) of my small tomato plants I bought and put outside, in the greenhouse, died.
Indeed there's been frosts, but I thought inside the greenhouse, close, they were fine.
And if that wasn't bad enough, last night I even forgot the greenhouse flap open, and again there was probably frost overnight.
I will have to spend another fortune at the garden shop to buy their replacements. Not to say about my heartache.
Now why on earth would you want to go and spend a fortune in the garden shop for a few tomatoes???!!!
I can let you have some seeds to grow your own, if you like? (PM me if interested, okay?)
Plus, check out this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=34

you will certainly be able to pick up some tips!
Good point.
I did seed my own tomatoes a few years in the past. And I also bought some small plants from the shop. Fact is, those I planted, they all died before becoming adult. Still not sure why, my wife says I water them too much.
So this year I only bought from the shop. And most died :-(

I only had 3 small sachets of powder that I had to mix with water before drinking. Still very unpleasant. But it is worth it in the long run. I was able to view the whole proceedure via a monitor. These poylps look sinister, menacing and malelovent and have no place in my colon. I cheered loudly when the first one was removed.

I seed my own tomatoes every year and they always work out. I plant them at the beginning of April and put them outside after the middle of May. They can be a bit sensitive for the first few weeks, but once the tomatoes start growning and there's no more dip in temperature, they're usually fine.

Try again, it's a lot of fun.

I have planted some really old seeds and been pleased as they have started to come up - and especially cool is that some of the seeds we kept from the mini tomatoes produced by plants from one of my oldies last year, have also sprouted.

Growing from seed is so exciting.

I think the key is not to start too early, so you are not trying to keep them happy indoors for ages, but they are big enough to go out mid May when it's usually frost free.

Tap's timings are perfect, I think.

Alberto, do look and see whether people in your neighbourhood are giving spare plants away - it would be a big saving but also you might get some cool varieties.

My dad and both of his brothers died of colon cancer. :( So I've had to get the a colonoscopy every 3-5 years, depending ... I get through the awful prep by remembering Dad's final week and knowing that he's up there cheering me on. I'm glad you weathered the storm.

The prep is not fun, but getting colon cancer is really not fun. :( So glad those nasty polyps are gone and you are doing well. Happy Easter!

And now another health problem. Should I have my gall bladder removed? I had a recent ultra scan and was told my gall bladder was full of gall stones. Removing the organ was a recommendation. I will probably get it removed soon as I can function pretty well without it.

I put Himself in the hospital yesterday. I feel greatly relieved - had been nursing him for almost 3 weeks. I won't go into details - lung and heart stuff - but am glad he is where he needs to be. He already has a treatment plan. He thought nothing would happen over Easter weekend.

People who have had it removed sometimes have a problem eating fatty foods but if it's full of stones, it's probably not functioning well anyway.

However.. around 10 years ago, I was also told that my gall bladder was full of gall stones. Not too long afterwards, I went to another doctor for something else and I told him so he decided to look too and he said nope, no stones and no problem since.

Never a good idea to have surgery without at least 2 opinions.

Himself was mis-diagnosed with pneumonia last week.

I would not be surprised that Dr just said that. Some people anatomy makes it difficult to get probe round some of the bends. Not your fault. Cannot believe after all that cleaning out, was not clean enough.
