advice about renting a furnished apartment

I've just landed a new job in Berlin and will be moving there in late January or early February. To get started, I'd like to rent a furnished apartment. Does anyone have advice about how to get started, or have specific agencies or landlords to recommend? If it matters, my job is in Moabit, ich kann Deutsch and I won't have a car.

A good place to start would be WG-Gesucht Berlin. They offer all sorts of filters to narrow down your search.e.g. furnished or unfurnished, size of flat and so on. In the past, I used them a lot and had no complaints. This should be your first port of call.

I've ended up booking a furnished flat in Hansaviertel for 3 months through wunderflats.com. The place is a decent size and not too expensive, and is near my new office. Also, the dates lined up. Of course, I have not seen the apartment yet! So far I have warm feelings about wunderflats security and user interface. We'll see!

When is the house warming?

I have the short-term rental until May. The house-warming must wait until I find a more permanent place, although I'd be happy to meet folks somewhere before then.

Here in Silicon Valley I run a more-or-less monthly Stammtisch. I'll have to come up with a new plan in DE.

My daughter‘s flat will come up to let early next year. Prenzlauer Allee, Prenzlauer Berg. Her tenancy agreement was minimum 2 months, extendable. I met the landlady and she’s very nice. PM me if you’d like more details. I visited recently and it’s a lovely area. As for getting about, trains/trams are great. Also, Miles cars are brilliant….there’s usually one close by. All automatics and low cost, charged by kilometres rather than time. The cost is a bit more apparently if you want a Tesla. Look for the Miles app.

When is "early next year"? That location looks appealing. I do want to be on the ground in Berlin a bit before deciding where to live longer term. One of my great hopes is to stop driving, forever. Berlin has great transit and I love cycling.

Hi Alison,
we just got a new flat in Prenzlauer Berg, Schwedter Straße (near Oderberger Straße and Mauerpark) and are subletting it for 12-18 months. We got a little girl last year and bought this place for when our current flat will become too small.

It’s attic flat and therefore very quiet with a terrace. It has a living room, sleeping room and an extra room (office, kids, guest room or whatever), bathroom with bathtub and fully-furnished kitchen.

We are currently furnishing it for the needs of a prospective tenant. Will be available roughly mid August. If you’re interested, let me know.
