Re: UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
Following on from my original post, here is an update in case someone else sees themselves in the same situation. I appreciate though that every person's situation will be unique. In our case, both my British husband and I (German) have private pension pots in the UK. We are permanently tax resident...

Re: UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
The provider won't sell an annuity. I get that, they're not licensed to sell financial products in the EU. You could look at a QROPS to Germany but then you'll have more German pension, rather than UK pension with UK personal allowance etc applying. If you can find a German provider that wants to t...

Re: UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
I do not know much about this !!! Re: UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
Have you read the other threads about SIPP? If not, just put it in the search bar. Yes, I have. They all address the 2025 changes in tax law relating to SIPPs or a post from myself, which asked a different question. I cannot find any posts that deal with the question I asked here. If there is one, ...

UK Private Pension - Brexit Issue
Dear All, Here I am again with a question about a UK Private Pension. My husband (UK citizen, resident in Germany) is approaching retirement age. He has a SIPP with a UK pension provider. He was told today that the pension provider where his SIPP is held cannot provide him with an annuity or any oth...

Re: Private Pension UK - Mandatory Financial Advice - Financial Advisor Needed
Thank you Gary and Andy! Went back to all the paper work and it was entirely my error - there is indeed no mandatory financial advice required for drawing the private pension. Classic case of misreading the small print. I apologise for the mistake on my part - also to anybody who I might have spooke...

Private Pension UK - Mandatory Financial Advice - Financial Advisor Needed
Hi everyone, I hope this is the right category for this: UK citizen, resident in Germany. Private pension pot in the UK and pension age approached. Due to the size of the pension pot it is mandatory to obtain financial advice before being able to draw the pension. We have been trying to find financi...

Thanks Panda Munich, for the very detailed explanation! I had already started building yet another xls model in my mind. Glad I can offload that now.

Re: German taxation of foreign interest bearing account
Happy New Year everyone! I came across this thread by chance and have a further question, if I may. I understand everything that was said about taxation of currency gains on interest bearing accounts, time lines etc. My question relates to current accounts (interest bearing or not). There is this &q...

Re: UK private pension - taxation lump sum payment
Unfortunately, the amount will be taxed in full if you are tax resident in Germany. "Effectively taxed" in the UK means the payment has been "subject to" UK tax, i.e. it is taxable in the UK, even if no tax is ultimately payable because of some relief or allowance like the perso...

UK private pension - taxation lump sum payment
Hello All, UK citizen, resident in Germany, recipient of a UK private pension. The pension will be taxed in the UK based on the DTT rule that tax exempt pension contributions were made for more than 15 years. The annuity will however be included in the German tax declaration for the Progressionsvorb...
