Re: What do you think about Iran conflict?

I think maybe applauding Russian spies/supporters in the middle of this invasion of a sovereign country is perhaps ill-advised snd short-sighted. Oh, and...

Re: US citizens can vote in state elections matching last US residence

You can vote for statewide offices, but not local offices. I am allowed to vote in local elections too (Lawrence, KS), and do, such as for mayor, school board, county clerk, judicial appointments, local referendums, etc. Obviously I'm no longer as attached to those outcomes on a daily personal leve...

Re: What do you think about Iran conflict?

Wag the dog . Respectfully, it's beyond Wag the Dog. Trump is not only trying to escape from his already abysmal approval rating and deflect attention away from his horrifying immigration enforcement policies and the Epstein files, but he is also trying to play find the queen with his upcoming atte...

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

The Consulate website says no padded or corrugated envelopes, just paper or light cardboard that isn't easily torn. I had to use what was there that I could buy. Here's hoping.

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

What I remember is the Versandtasche. However, none of the Post branches in Rewe and the like have such things. I hope what I sent was okay. I guess I'll know soon enough. It was my passport renewal, so if it busts wide open, I am in a spot.

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

I know I'm getting older, but I was quite taken aback today when the zygote behind the DHL counter at Rewe said DHL does not provide envelopes for express mail and never has. Did I hallucinate the yellow and black cardboard ketter-sized envelopes?

Well, this happened. Meet Jacob aka 10-ply aka Shakey Jakey. He's a German short-haired pointer. About 4-5 yo. Scared of everything. Got him from an Italian shelter where he'd been for over 2 years. deutsch-kurzhaar-rassehund-mittelgross-friedrichsdorf-koeppern_0f0241f2-5bc2-4f23-844d-0a4ca1f14243.j...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

I know haven't posted in a while. I'm bummed because our bully boy died a few weeks ago, and my wife isn't ready for a new dog. She works a lot, and the house gets lonely. He died at 13 from metastatic lung cancer. Fast and aggressive. He didn't suffer.

Re: More and more people trying to visit the United States end up behind bars | DW News

Having a valid travel document plus visa if you need it is not a guarantee to get into any country. It's always up to the discretion of the visa officer. Previously they might have kept people in airport jail and put them on the next flight home but I'm reading now that people are sent into ICE det...

Windows 11 to unsupported hardware or Linux Mint

So, I am one of those folks who has a perfectly good, running laptop in Windows 10 but is facing the discontinuation of security patches and updates in October 2025. I can install Win 11, but it might end up being unstable. It also may not be eligible for security updates. My hardware: Asus Rog Stri...

Hello, long time member of the previous site. I've been struggling to find a Pediatrician that will behave in a manner other than expecting me to worship the ground they walk on. As the appointments are... Legally enforced in Hesse, I am kinda losing my mind trying to find someone who is going to b...

No smartphone and no internet is digital self-segregation, not exclusion. You screwed this pooch all by yourself.

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

A package I sent in April, which contained a one-of-a-kind watermelon tourmaline, rubellite, and mica specimen, was declared missing by DHL in May. I was compensated for it in June. Since it was an eBay sale, I had to give the money back to the buyer (right away, of course, because I am not a jerk),...
