On logging out from our Sparkassen account the usual self-advertissment appears - here is a snapshot: Clipboard_11-11-2025_01.jpg SInce most of the card the young lady is holding dissapears into the red background it would appear at first glance that she is joyfully holding a pregnancy test. Indepen...

Re: Obituaries
I have vague recollections of Dorothy Hodgkin (Nobel prize in Chemistry for determining the structure of vitamin B12) coming to our house (South of Manchester) for dinner. With Jack Dunitz (& his daughter Marguerite) we (father, brother + self) hiked up the Grosser Mythen - must have been in the...

Because she was a stay-at-home mum (politically incorrect) her pension is not massive but still welcome. How can she has a pension at all if she didn't work? My wife too is a stay-at-home mum, and therefore we don't expect any German pension for her My wife was working (DESY Rechenzentrum) when we ...

Re: Why are you happy today?
Happy today because my wife got the letters from the DE Rentenversicherung (& the TK) that as of 1st November she is a Rentner . Because she was a stay-at-home mum (politically incorrect) her pension is not massive but still welcome. Somewhat amazed since we only submitted the Antrag 5 weeks ago.

Re: Obituaries
I once saw them live in Hamburg & was dreadfully dissapointed - far too loud & sound quality poor.
IMHO - this is one of their best songs.

John Lodge (Bass guitarist of The Moody Blues ), aged 82. Was happily married 57 years which is good going in that environment. The first 2 albums I ever bought were On the Threshold of a Dream & To Our Children's Children's Children (the mad music teacher at senior school kept playing these).

Re: Bundesbank Reporting - Transfer of Money UK to DE
We moved ours over many years ago (2008), but at the time we simply asked our bank in Germany what to do, and they told us that transfers between our UK and German accounts didn't need reporting. This is true. My suggestion is to talk to your Sparkasse before the move and see what they say. They wi...

Jim Lovell , commander of the ill fated Apollo 13 mission, dies at age 97 . Also crew member of Apollo 8. I well remember the TV broadcasts over Christmas 1968. We did not own a TV at that time but back then grandmother & 2 aunts used to come on Christmas Eve to stay in our house for a few days...

Re: The Weather
The Deutsche Segelflugmeisterschaften der Junioren 2025 in Freudenstadt / Musbach (25.7. - 2.8.) did not have a single day of valid competition. Flying continually rained off. Best they could do was a Frisbee competition. When one thinks of the effort put in by the organisors and the pilots (togethe...

Re: The Weather
Basically since the Summer Solstice the weather has been poor - at least for our flying activities. There were a couple of blistering hot days & several Sundays were rained-off. Often the first half of July yields good conditions for long flights but - at least from Southern Schleswig-Holstein -...

Re: Why are you happy today?
After sitting in my FeWo on the schwäbische Alb for a week in wind, rain & T-Storms yesterday the promised good flying weather appeared - but not quite as good as forecast.
Anyhow I managed to complete a 411 km task in just over 5 hours which was probably about the maximum possible for the day.
