But this doesn't address the original question.

Only 200quid? Seems very little.

Re: Money-saving tipps

After boiling food, like pasta, do you throw the hot water in the drain? I rather fish out the food, drain it, and leave the hot water in the pot (closed lid, so steam stays in), so its heat is not thrown out into the drain but rather slowly leaks into the room/kitchen. This allows you to run the ho...

Re: becoming a UK non resident for tax matters

Germany has had the right to tax your worldwide income I think this is wrong. Germany taxes the portion of your income that originates in Germany. Oder...? Nope. For example, if you live in Germany, close to the Dutch border, and you actually work in the Netherlands, commuting by car every day, you...

Re: becoming a UK non resident for tax matters

I do not have German income so I have never done a German tax return You are living in Germany and you are having income. You have to pay taxes on that in Germany, not somewhere else. Again, isn't the case that you pay income tax to Germany only for the German income? I expect our fav tax guru will...

Re: Gardening

Thanks for the tomato answers.
Yes, I did do plenty of holes at the bottom of the 500ml yogurt pots.

Good news: they now got their first step onto the property ladder🙂

Re: Gardening

Guys, do your tomatoes grow? I'm pretty frustrated because, same as in past years, the tomato plants I started from the seed are very promising at the beginning, but soon after that they stop growing and die. Different types but generally almost same behavior. Not all of them, but most. Not sure wha...

I think we had this on the earlier forum. I am planning to "save" money soon by collecting cherries. Makes a bit of work but it feels much better than buying fruit. ... What other ways can one save cash (or time, or energy..)? .. I make ca 200 jam jars per year, all the fruit is from my g...

Gymnasium 8th grade voluntary Wiederholung

Our 14yo is in gymnasium, 8th grade. Zeugnis were bad last year (5 in french and history, she moved up nevertheless, just..) and this year is going to be even worse: 5 in french, 5+ in maths and history. I would like to ignore french (zweite Fremdsprahce, or 5th language, depending how you count), a...

@Frantic very interesting, thanks a lot for sharing. From whom did you buy it and get it installed? Small local company or big name? In our case definitely Akku not worthed. Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

I won't get a battery. Bad for environment AND bad for my wallet. And extra hassle. Ironically, my inverter is actually already compatible with a battery (I know most aren't), I wouldn't need to be changed. Bear in mind the quotation was 2020, some time ago, perhaps less expensive now, can't be both...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...

I don't think it matters. If you live in your home country getting a very small pension, they would have to pay for your health care, your small pension and maybe a top up of some social to keep you fed. If you move, they pay for your health care in some other country, your small pension and probab...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...

Not fully on topic, but... ...what would happen if the same entity (UK, or DRV, or whatever), must pay the pension, AND the health care cost (public, or private, whatever) is higher than the actual pension? After all a pension can be very low, for example if a person has worked only a very short tim...

Re: Could I go back to the UK?

So a poor Brit can live in his country with his wife only if she's Brit, because he's poor. But a rich brit can live in his country with his wife even if she's not Brit, because he's rich. I find it wrong. Not matter what explanation. Immigration operates by law and the law does not give a Brit the...
