Re: German husband moving abroad
Even if he stays outside Germany for 6 months or longer, he may still be taxable in Germany if he still has a home or an apartment.

Re: Money-saving tipps
I'm all for saving a few cents and being green but some of this stuff seems extremely anal to me. Every way of saving money is anal to somebody. We all have things we are not willing to compromise on. For someone it might be their two daily showers, for someone else it may be having a warm house. T...

Re: Money-saving tipps
How long did the hot water run while you removed the watering cans? Where did you put them? What did you use it for? Once the hot water arrives at the tap, you can quickly shut it off for a short time without it going cold again. I'm assuming they used it to water flowers / garden. I saw a program ...

Re: Money-saving tipps
The app Too Good To Go has been a success in our family. It took some time to find the stores that give the best deals, but now we are down to a couple of bakeries we buy from through TGTG at least once a week, sometimes twice. For less than 5 EUR we get 2 to 4 sandwiches, croissants, simits, apple...

Re: Money-saving tipps
Back in the early days of internet there was a group on usenet named alt.frugal where members would share money saving tips and pretty hard core like making your own soap. Now I don't make my own soap but I've been broke sometimes so my tips are: 1. For grocery shopping, make a list and stick to it....

Re: Moving to the UK - my husband's private health insurance
Apart from health care, will he at all be allowed to move to the UK? There was some discussion here https://happy.toytown.ing/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=167 "taking back control": I think you being a UK citizen is not enough, joint family income must be high enough... Good luck!! She says he...

Re: Gymnasium 8th grade voluntary Wiederholung
It sounds like she would want the option to stay in gymnasium and move on to 9th grade. As you know, it will not be easy. Bad grades mean less foundation to build on for next year so it will only get harder. If you allow this option, you need to tell her that it's her very last chance and that she n...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...
Say you're in Germany with a German pension, and KK costs of 300 eur/month. If your pension is 2000 eur/month, they deduct from it the 300eur/month of KK and pay you the rest 1700eur/month. But if your pension is 200 eur/month, do they still pay your full KK 300 eur/month? Maybe it is indeed so, bu...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...
Not fully on topic, but... ...what would happen if the same entity (UK, or DRV, or whatever), must pay the pension, AND the health care cost (public, or private, whatever) is higher than the actual pension? After all a pension can be very low, for example if a person has worked only a very short ti...

Re: Could I go back to the UK?
So a poor Brit can live in his country with his wife only if she's Brit, because he's poor. But a rich brit can live in his country with his wife even if she's not Brit, because he's rich. I find it wrong. Not matter what explanation. Immigration operates by law and the law does not give a Brit the...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...
Solution: never tell DRV about your contributions in other (former) Member States, so they will never check whether you have fulfilled the 5 years together with those contribution periods. And even if you had kicked off this process by telling DRV at some point in the past about your former UK publ...

Re: Could I go back to the UK?
Then the older BRIT dies, without any money, so the UK tax payer than has pay for the Thai girl and kids for 10s of years. The UK Government does not like this, thats why they have the law, that you cannot bring a poor wife in to the UK, unless the partner is earing enough, that if something unfort...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...
It says the country you've contributed to for the longest is responsible for your health care. Which is hopeful :D It looks to me like that is only if you are taking pension from two (or more) EU countries but aren't living in either (or one) of them. Their example is for someone taking pension fro...

Re: I don't want to qualify for a German pension...
What you need to find out is what the UK will do. It is even possible if you apply for pension in the UK and they know you are in Germany that they tell you to apply here first or they might even apply for you. If not and you get your foot in the door with a German krankenkasse before you end up wit...

Another big advantage of e-Prescription is when you get a regularly the same medicine, you do not have to go to the doctor anymore, you can just call them and ask for a refill and they put it in the system. The doctor's office needs to scan your health card every quarter though. That's what they te...

Re: Could I go back to the UK?
Because if it´s not done it promotes health tourism which over the years 1000s have taken advantage of. It´s once again one of those things where the majority of people have to suffer because of the small % of people who abuse the system. It's hardly tourism when you have to wait for months to get ...
