I've never noticed the cashiers expecting cash as most pay with card and it is always faster than cash. I'm one of the few cash people left but I pack my things before I pay. Always have. It's because bicycle transport is not possible for this route I think the problem here is the ICE+bicycle. If you change to local trains only, you get prices but it would take twice as long. Also if you take out the bike, you get prices for ICE as well.
