Re: German husband moving abroad

I can only speak to my situation. I am currently still on an Aufenthaltserlaubnis, but my category is as the spouse of an ehemalige Deutscher (former German citizen). Each time I‘ve applied/renewed we’ve both been required to sign something very formal stating that we still live together as a marrie...

Re: hTTi Meeting in Munich

Close shop at 1, train to MUC shortly thereafter. Will be at restaurant by 6, if anyone cares to join early.
My FlixBus from way down yonder arrives nearby at ZOB at about 12:30 pm. So I’ll be there at 5:30 to start holding down the fort. Looking forward to spending 24 hours in the big city. 😀

Re: Why are you happy today?

I was lazy and waited over 4 years to switch my DE license over for a German one. I have never driven here and probably never will, but my US (KS) license is up for renewal in early June and I wanted the DE one so I can legally drive in the US in the future when I visit. KS is a state with DL recipr...

Re: Money-saving tipps

Been using vinegar and baking soda for cleaning for ages. Great for sticky pots too, as well all the previous stuff mentioned. I first learned about it from my MIL who was born in Eastern Europe in 1923 and didn’t grow up buying cleaning products at the supermarket.

Re: becoming a UK non resident for tax matters

My neighborhood, directly on the Swiss border, is filled with folks living here on the less expensive side while working for higher wages in 🇨🇭. They are tax resident in 🇩🇪 cuz they reside here. Likewise, our annual 401K withdrawals, in $ obviously, are taxable here in Germany as part of our worldwi...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

I had to leave our cat at the vet so she can get fully tested tomorrow morning nüchtern. I can’t even think of the English word for that just now….no food or drink before examination. I always think of „nüchtern“ in the context of being sober, but clearly here it means they want her to have an empt...

Re: German bank asking for SSN

Hello, I have opened a savings account at Santander (thanks @Panda for pointing out to their interest rate) and now they are asking for my SSN (US Social Security Number). Is that a common thing now, I don't remember any other bank asking for it before? Thanks, Nixon. When we opened our account 4 y...

We are singing this is my choir and I find it to be an amazingly beautiful song. A translation from German can’t do it justice IMO.

The beer is bad as it’s a deliberate untruth. For some, including my husband, ANY such hidden alcohol can be a serious problem when combined with certain prescription medications. *AND* ... mouthwash. Yes, I am not kidding, if hubby uses a mouth wash, look at the list of Ingredients! A strict NoGo....

Update from she who is clearly possessed: I finished the first Charlotte Link book, Die Betrogene, and on my own started the second book in the series, Die Suche. It’s a mere 654 pages, of which 255 pages are ✅. :D The VHS course for Book 1 isn’t over, and I’ve already gone positively rogue! As a bo...

All of my radiology has been forwarded to the appropriate doctors electonically for some years now. I remember back in the old days trying to keep up with xrays and CD's for CT scans and MRI. That was a pain. Big city girl here. Yessiree „big city girl“. I remember this discussion on „unhappy TT“ l...

Re: Sick note after a vasectomy

I can only attest to the fact that some of us live in places where many of these magical changes don’t occur as quickly as they do in the „big city“. A year ago I had to hand carry my sinus x-ray results to the HNO Arzt. Not sure if that’s changed yet. And the e-prescription has only been recently ...

Re: Let's talk about EV's

If you're interested I recommend the book of Bill gates on this topic. He convinced me that even if we were to produce ALL energy vua renewables, so zero fossil burning, we would still be emitting more co2 than the planet can tolerate. Making stuff emits co2. Even with entirely renewable energy. Th...

Just as an aside: Be very careful when you make 420 jokes, like "I think everything that has to do with 420 is cool", because Hitler's birthday was April 20th. This can quickly lead to misunderstandings. My son's birthday is April 19th. So I guess we just scraped by. Our son's childhood f...

A week ago during the spell of warm weather I was tempted to move my windowsill tomatoes and chillies outdoor in the Hochbeet.
