Re: What do you think about Iran conflict?
Our elderly neighbors, who spend the winter months every year in Goa, wrote today to update us. They were supposed to fly back with Qatar Airlines yesterday or today and all flights are halted at least until March 6th. This means tomorrow they have to go out of their way to some bureaucratic office ...

Re: What are you watching right now?
Seaside Hotel, (a Danish series), dubbed in German. I'm happily hangin' in there w/o subtitles (not available at ARD). It's entertaining historical fiction with the parallel stories of the upper and lower classes playing out side by side. I'm hooked! It's out there in English too. https://www.ardmed...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Right. My Armenian-Germerican grands (3, 6, & 9), who have never set foot in the US, have US passports (no dual citizenship) that must be renewed every 5 years. We have to always keep track of each cycle cuz a US citizen can't enter the EU with less than 3 months to expiration since that's the l...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
I think main complaint is that this change for dual EU/UK nationals was announced a year ago, but was not well publicised and people in EU had little idea. Not sure if this was different for dual US German folks? Dual American-Germans and Americans residing in Germany have always been required to e...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Renewing a passport every 10 years for 95 GBP is like an insurance policy IMO. For Americans it's about the same ($130), and I have/will never let my pass lapse to avoid a $13 per year insurance policy. For slightly over $1 a month I never ever worry about whether or not I can fly "home" p...

Birds just chirping away all over the place! Each day as I walk in the neighborhood the singing gets stronger, a sign of what's to come. It's beautiful.

Franklan, I'm sure I'm being very dense but I need that one explaining! Apart from it looks like an Irish street and it's actually not raining ..... 🤔 I'm not Franklin. He can correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the idea is that the man who is walking looks like Colonel Sanders, the fried chicken gu...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Regarding the expired passport topic:- Dual nationals could use expired UK passports to prove they are British, Home Office says I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I am British and not having a British passport doesn't change that. From the article:- Morgan Read, an immigration barrister ...

On this topic: I’m not British of course, but I just read this in the Guardian and thought it might be informative for some of you.

I recently purchased a Probe BahnCard 25 Gold for 19,99€. I earned my money and more booking a trip to Berlin and back. Today I’m also traveling from Berlin to Leipzig and back for free, since DE won a gold medal yesterday. Whenever they win a gold I can travel anywhere in DE on the DB, even an ICE,...

Your US passport is your Ausweis. That’s what I used of course to get my number years ago. I just went to the Telekom store and dealt with a human being.

They just start upping it instantly and you're at 30 per month before you know it. I speak from experience. Also, if one were to run it completely down one is simply throttled.

Probably the same people who shoved peas and things up their noses when they were babies. They should do a study. :D I politely beg to differ. I don't actually recall this event, but I was apparently stuffing peas up my nose when Mom was looking the other way. She took me to the doctor due to stran...

Re: dual US and German SIMS
I'd like to get a German phone number for obvious reasons, but would like to keep my US number at least for a while. I thought that perhaps I could get a discount here in Germany with Telekom since I have T-Mobile in the US, but as far as I can tell, that's not true. Does anyone have advice about g...

We have a WMF Raclette Gerät and trot it out at our annual family Christmas gathering. The grandkids love it! Since I'm not German the potato selections get me majorly confused and I am SO grateful that Edeka puts out a bag like that for Raclette Kartoffeln, even though such potatoes clearly aren't ...

Re: E-Reader Purchase
Good suggestion! It's also interesting how one can fall into discovering something works, or doesn't work. For years I had a regular sized iPad and thought it was the cat's meow. Then 2 years ago while in the US I really wanted to buy an iPad mini. I became a convert overnight. So I finally ga...
