Re: What made you smile today? :)
In South Carolina, it was mandatory in order to get in first grade. My late sister flunked kindergarten and started school at 7. She was just too immature and grew out of it. No idea what the requirements are now. Oh, and kindergarten wasn't in all elementary schools. We went to some place called M...

Re: What made you smile today? :)
The kindergarden must be one of the greatest gifts ever bestowed upon the rest of the world by Germany. I recall back in the Winter of 1966/67 when we were living in Munich / Ottobrunn that we had a visit from a US chemistry professor who uttered the immortal words " Say, do they have Kinderga...

Re: End of three years of Aufenthaltstitel...what would be the next step
If you are living off of these dividends I would expect them to be included in your monthly/annual proof of ability to support yourself here. Our situation was: we arrived here, 60+, living for several years off of savings and documentary proof of future IRA RMDs and US Social Security payments. One...

Re: Whats up in the South?
Way way down South here on the Bodensee it's raining cats and dogs. At least the temp is finally a bit above freezing though. My little patootie is stayin' put tonight. Gonna watch Tatort and knit and enjoy the comfort of my warm and dry living room.

I have already bought 4 of them. They are very well made and easy to assemble. The drawers are already assembled, so you just screw the 4 legs to the top (they even provide the key to do it) and that's it. We have one as well, but in wild oak, and are also very pleased with it. Sturdy, practical si...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.
This is why you take a screen shot of the boarding pass and just open your photo gallery at the gate while on the line. No wifi/etc. needed. Before I got the airline apps, I would take a photo of my QR code on my PC with my phone. Ticket then in my gallery. Exactly! or as I said above, put it in yo...

This article is kind of sobering
and I'm wondering what our local Icelandic guy here on TT thinks about it.

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.
But... While I salute those who choose to forgo technology (and see that many just can't embrace it) I have to say for me the apps generally make life easier. Less to go wrong. Printers are a pain! We traveled with Swiss, United, and Southwest in September on our US trip. (Zurich-Chicago-Kansas Cit...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.
...people have the choice of, which option they want to use and can use the normal checkout even if it takes longer than the self checkout (something I do). With Ryanair people have the choice of not flying with them if they don't want to have to use a digital boarding pass or pay for a paper one a...

Re: Why are you happy today?
Mixed feelings, but I'm a glass-half-full kinda gal. A dear, dear friend of mine in Kansas who is the same age as my mother passed away yesterday. As good fortune would have it I was in the US in September and was with her to celebrate her bellybutton birthday. So my last memories of being with her ...

I know haven't posted in a while. I'm bummed because our bully boy died a few weeks ago, and my wife isn't ready for a new dog. She works a lot, and the house gets lonely. He died at 13 from metastatic lung cancer. Fast and aggressive. He didn't suffer. Oh no! I'm sorry. That's a tough blow. Glad h...

I am happy for all the posts about "spunk" in the laughing thread.
I've a good reason to be posting in the Unhappy thread today, but the "spunk" posts are a good diversion. Long live spunk. It's admirable to have spunk.

Re: What Made You Laugh Today
When I was in a rather lively all 2000 girl comprensive school in 70s London, some US guys from Gideon bible rocked up at morning assembly. Poor discipline, minor heckling. Guy responded that we were full of spunk. Did not improve the situation. Remember it fondly.   yep, that would...

Re: What Made You Laugh Today
This caused me to look up different uses of the word "spunk" in varieties of English. (one seems to be semen :o ) For me, I've never known spunk as anything but unbridled determination, but alas, I am once again confronted with the cultures separated by a common language reminder. I ...

Re: Why are you happy today?
My choir and a group of hobby musicians who play jazz put on a concert last night to a full house and we all got standing ovations. The concert took place in our Stadttheater with seating for 380 and it's reported to be the oldest surviving theater in Germany. We are all on cloud nine. Instead of pr...

Re: Rant about unbelievable software insufficiencies
I've got an iPhone and there's a keyboard switch icon available. I do occasionally need a refresher course on this on all my devices. For that I consult the Chilean-German teenagers upstairs who switch between Spanish, German, and English at the speed of light.
