Re: Will I lose my permanent residence if I do an abmeldung when married?

@babitt said: suppose I, age 67, need go to the US to take care of my 88 year-old mother and it ends up being an 8-month stay. Meantime, my apartment is here, my health insurance is here, my husband is here, … @alberto said: I think you are wrong. I "think" if you stay out this long, you w...

Also be aware of those people with zodiac sign "askhole": They'll ask for your recommendation, then don't listen, and finally come back to you to fix verkackte tinnef that you explicitly warned about from the beginning. Thx for this gem. I am studying for my German exam that takes p...

Re: Will I lose my permanent residence if I do an abmeldung when married?

So that's why I'm asking. According to that, I won't lose my residence. But I've heard differ...

Re: Will I lose my permanent residence if I do an abmeldung when married?

My understanding is that retaining a permanent "residency" permit is contingent upon "residing" here, which you clearly aren't planning on doing. Citizenship confers the benefit of allowing one to reside wherever one chooses to and coming and going as one pleases. But I am not a ...

Re: Why are you happy today?

Happy cuz I spent a day with a dear friend visiting from the US. The weather was fabulous and we took a boat ride on Thunsee, visited the castle grounds in Spiez, and took a tram up to the lookout station above Interlachen. On the train back to Konstanz now. I got to watch the sun set as the train r...

Re: The Weather

Returned yesterday from our family vacation on Naxos (lots of sun and Cycladic breeze, no fires thankfully). It rained buckets down here in Konstanz in our absence and the desperately low water levels in the Rhein and the lake went way up! It's now 15-20 during the day, cloudy, and feels like fall. ...

Re: Americans - US Passport Renewal & NE

UPDATE on my entire process: Nov 2024 - got my NE after 5 years in Konstanz. (process detailed above in the thread) Jan 2025 - decided to work on naturalization since it's available now after just 5 years and dual citizenship is easily possible. Feb 2025 - signed up for the next available Einbürgeru...

Re: DB again...

Several of us have bemoaned experiencing various DB app problems. Happy to report that for some reason unbeknownst to me my app on the smartphone is no longer screwy. Sittin’ on the train from Konstanz-Radolfzell-Friedrichshafen with a digital ticket and correct pricing. 👏 May this positive turn of ...

Re: Gardening

we´ll start small and get a lock fitted on the garden gate! Still, it´s a pain in the neck!!! And downright disappointing that people behave so rudely. My idea was also to put up a sign. BTW, my bike parked out front of my house, near downtown, often has people throwing trash and bottles in my bask...

Re: German word of the day

I recently perused ARD Mediathek for something in German to watch and stumbled upon “Tatort Therapie” thinking this was something to do with watching Tatort Krimis for a bona fide therapeutic reason, which of course had me slightly puzzled. 😂 Upon reading the summary I realized it’s a documentary ab...

Re: Whats up in the South?

We are on our way back home to Konstanz after 2 weeks at the Bauernhof in Bayern and we just stopped at Cafe Huttner at Inning am Ammersee. Doesn’t @Robinson100 or another of you live near or on that lake? Inning seems very nice although I wish we had had time to actually see the lake. We decided to...

Re: avoiding the middle of the day

It is a bit too hot for me these past few days. I now avoid going out between 11 and 3. I lie on my bed with a cooling fan near my head and simply read or listen to the BBC World Service. I would normally go to the gym at about 1 as it breaks the day nicely up. Now I go early in the morning. Even t...

Re: Getting a Deutschlandticket just for one month

Considering the fact that the DE ticket also covers the bus in Passau, the U-Bahn and S-Bahn in Munich and will be valid for other tickets from today till the end of the month (if you book it today), I would go for the DE ticket. I took a beautiful hour long walk up and down, in the middle of nowhe...

Re: Bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities

Conflicting reports as to how much damage was actually caused. Obviously the orange buffoon is claiming "complete obliteration" but two of the facilities were only attacked with Tomahawks which wouldn't have done anything more than surface damage. I also have my doubts about the capabilit...

Beautiful day on the Bodensee. We just drove off of the Konstanz-Meersburg ferry and are on our merry way over to Bayern. The Armenian-Germericans (now 5 & 8) can’t wait to get to the Bauernhof in Windpassing. See y’all tomorrow. 😃

And an apostrophe is missing in “nations” 😬 If this is a real DoD post I find that to be an abomination. BTW, I feel the zone is so flooded now that I generally assume this stuff is fake until I can prove it’s true. 😔
