Re: German word of the day

"Unfug" was often used by moms at the Spielplatz in Steglitz in West Berlin when I lived there in 1986-88. I still can't say it without thinking about how I'm gonna manage not to mess it up and say "unf***"! :o

Re: German word of the day

What about some craftsman spending time, effort and no small amount of money making beautiful, original items from precious metals and stones, only to see the items stuck in a shop window under a sign offering, "Schmuck". Yes, it's kinda hard to let go of my deeply rooted idea of what tha...

He's not capable of thinking. He just makes stuff up as he goes along. And he says things for shock value. Fasten your seat belts!

Re: Let's talk about EV's

Elon Musk threw the Nazi salute yesterday at Trump's inauguration, twice because once was not enough. Of course they are now saying it was not a Nazi salute, even if it looks like he rehearsed it (and still managed to do it very sloppy). No Nazi salute, just like that Confederate flag has nothing t...

Re: Today's investment

My portfolio hops up and down but in the long term, it's up. I check it once a month. I don't see the point of checking it more often. Exactly what my advisor says. "You've been in it for the long haul and it's worked out beautifully. A monthly check-in is fine and don't sweat it." :D

Re: Starting a business: Germany vs. USA

It’s false IMO. I have friends who produced items for the weekly market, both in Lawrence, KS and in Davis, CA. The rules were stiff and one could not do it in a non-approved kitchen (which generally couldn’t be set up at home). We had friends from Lebanon in Lawrence, KS who made humdinger hummus a...

Re: Why are you happy today?

EZ Christmas! Just Oma, Opa, and our 8 year old Armenian-Germerican granddaughter. Bought a lovely small tree and made homemade ornaments with paper and twine and watched the 1966 how the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon. Mrs. Claus left a game, a puzzle, and a Lego toy for us. She wasn't stressed. :l...

My 5 yo grandson’s cousin’s hat got caught in a tree. He explained to me that “Oma, Arman’s Hut ist gehängen gebleiben!” I was in stitches and then so was he. I spelled it like he said it. (His mother tongue is Armenian.j

For what its worth I have a HP Envy 5032 Printer/Scanner since March 2019 & am pretty happy with it. In recent years I've been using no-name refilled ink cartridges without iproblems. I would like to keep what we have as long as possible. I really hate the “throw away” culture. PM me plz if you...

Wow! Our printer has died, an HP multifunction that we could use to copy, scan, and print. Frankly, I think we could go even more basic. Plz let me know if anyone has a replacement to suggest.

Re: Americans - US Passport Renewal & NE

Does that mean that I won't need to get a new NE when I get my new Ami passport? Is it retro-active or only for new NE cards? Good question! I wouldn't necessarily assume so, but ask your local bureaucrat. Your next NE will just say "Staatsangehörigkeit USA" and you'll just show your curr...

Re: Americans - US Passport Renewal & NE

My latest permit, the NE which was issued a month ago, is not tied to any passport number. It just shows shows my nationality. The case worker mentioned twice that it’s no longer necessary to apply for a new one when the passport changes. Just get a new card in ten years. 😀
