UK guy is out of tune. And the sex in grubby public toilet thing is not my thing. Sam Smith type shit but worse.

Re: Moving to the UK - my husband's private health insurance

I think it might only apply when returning from working in an EU country which has Gesetzliche Krankenkasse.

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

Thanks Franklan, I already knew about this shop by googling too. So going to try it. Just hoping perhaps that some people with experience could help too. I am not joking, it is madly difficult. Has an unexpected interview next week and smart clothes mad tight. Thanks. I realise he should lose weight...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

My son is big. I mean 6 2. But also overweight. He is having a difficult time finding clothes that fit. There is nowhere near us that does stuff that fits him. Shopping online is so difficult, sizing is haphazard, XL can be XXXL. 5 XL can be just XL. Does anyone know any actual shops with people who...

Re: confusion over german inheritance

I was wondering if the OP was mixing up POA and executor. Possible of cause that Aunty has the latter? Not that it gives her any power.

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

OK, some of you might remember me saying I had misplaced 4 packets of crumpets bought in December 2022. Yay, I found them. Flummoxed as they were somewhere I had actually looked a few times. Perhaps they had walked there, their condition almost merits that possibility.

Re: confusion over german inheritance

I am befuddled as to why the aunt would think this unfair. Let alone the sister's daughter. Her mother is basically just passing on her inheritance early. Of course if it is loads and goes on the (generous) tax free allowance the tax is higher for a grandchild.

Re: Could I go back to the UK?

Is the NHS bad? Not that I have massive experience with it, but no I don't think it is bad. Doctors are highly paid. And they work hard and long hours. I have friends that work as Dr. OK, bad management could well be a point, but is there ANY very such hugely complex service where management is not...

Re: Inheritance tax on UK inheritance

I had an accountant do it. He did a calculation of what I would have have received if no estate tax had been paid. This sounds simpler than it is, with multiple people benefitting from the will (some tax free/ some reduced/ some taxed). I was receiving a portion that was remaining. It was not a simp...

Re: Digital Exclusion part 1 The Euro soccer in Berlin

Yes, I have no problem with that, except when a smart phone becomes compulsory. And your post reminds me that somewhere hidden away here in a lot of untidy paperwork is the bumf for getting electronic Aufenhaltserlaubnis. They sent it to me too early, before I even got my plastic card.

Re: Digital Exclusion part 1 The Euro soccer in Berlin

So by extension carrying photo ID is also caving into technology, albeit a little older  A German Ausweiss is hardly "technology" they have a long history. Atm costs about 38 euro for 10 years. Multiple functions, including passport within EU. A smartphone costs much more. So insisti...

Re: Digital Exclusion part 1 The Euro soccer in Berlin

How is that cowardly? If I have no computer and go to the library to use their computers there or I use a friend's computer is that cowardly? I am confused. I guess (perhaps) by "cowardly" Colin means caving in to new tech being compulsory, though it stretches the meaning of the word a li...

...and you'd better be quick, or the Irish shortbread may go missing ;) I doubt it is anyone from here. But you could try the gefunden verloren thing for Muenchen on Facebook. My son found his lost passport this way. (Though that should have been a Fundgrübe thing, or even police). Police have also...

Re: The Vent

ER waiting times are getting as long as in the US. I recently tripped and broke my wrist. Eight hours later, I had an X-ray and a cast *sigh*. In Heidelberg I avoid the bigger places. During the day the small accident places are great and quick for minor breaks, cuts, etc. Outside of their hours ha...

Many thanks you for all your replies. Especially Panda for the very detailed one. I had a hazy memory about it, and this is excellent infomation for people in same situation. The good news is she has found her British passport and it is still valid. So they are off again. She is promising to have a ...

Lost passport about to travel...

OK my daughter has tickets on Monday for train to France. She has just lost her Irish passport. She is also a German citizen, but has not bothered with a passport or ID yet (yes, I know). I have a dim and dusty memory of a way of getting some sort of emergency ID from your local Bürgeramt. I have ri...

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

I never understand why people find it so easy to buy and carry home plastic bottles that are heavy with content, but find it so difficult to return th bottles, so light when they are empty. Flumoxed. TBH when people go on a picnic and decide to leave their leftovers that then get pulled out of bins....

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

If you find it so hard to take a few empty bottles back you are allowed to put them in your bin. Really, I am not getting this. Perhaps you are disabled and cannot drive, well that would be a thing I guess. I hope you are not.

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

So why do some jam and other condiment producers have the prettiest jars and lids, but with labels that are glued on with gunk that is near on impossible to remove. I know I could use a hairdryer or whatnot, but why the weird glue? Bon Mamam and others are water soluble and easy. I use them to store...
