Re: What Made You Laugh Today
On a local Facebook group, someone posted this……I really thought it was a bit of a joke given the ad board placement. No, no one else saw that. Comments only about inconsiderate parking. Is there no German equivalent of di*khead?

Re: Money-saving tipps
I‘m very sceptical about eco settings on appliances. I always had the notion that something running, sometimes more than twice as long, surely wears out expensive components quicker? Our elderly neighbours are still using 30+ years old appliances. A repair man once told me that new designs often mak...

Re: Current computer prices, especially memory and GPU-chips
Reminds me of way back in the early nineties, when I worked for a computer company. Most customers were burgled, only memory was stolen.

Re: What made you smile today? :)
My ginger used to be just like that. Neighbours called him ‘2 dinner Sid’ in England. After moving to Germany, little kids would ask me what they are allowed to give him. I saw my neighbour’s kid sharing a hot dog with him in their garden

Re: Patio roof and "Abstandflächen übernommen"
Maybe it is different with a DHH. Our neighbours attached a terrace glass roof directly at the boundary line between our gardens. Then later added glazed walls to make a full conservatory. Might be worth asking at your local Bauamt to be sure.

Re: UK State pension/DE DRV when divorcing
If your current UK pension forecast is less than £230.25 then you don't have and cannot not generate a protected payment. Thanks so much Gary. I just got my latest UK state pension forecast by post. The forecast is £230.04 per week. I think the slightly less than £230.25 relates to having had opted...

Re: I'm bored.
I’m very boring….no sky diving for me 😊. I feel like I’ve hibernated all winter faffing with divorce stuff etc. Spring makes everything better though. I go forest walking and chat with dog walkers. Or, go and do front garden tidying. Nice neighbours always stop for a gossip. I get the sympathy head ...

Re: UK State pension/DE DRV when divorcing
Thank you GaryC. I reach UK state pension age in 7.5 years. My last forecast 2 years ago was no more than ca.£210 per week. I’m waiting for a reply to my latest forecast request. I can only guess that the 5.5 years I topped up since marriage wouldn’t be much of a split if my husband has an entitleme...

UK State pension/DE DRV when divorcing
I’d really appreciate some advice on how pensions are allocated when divorcing. I only have future UK state pension. No DE pension. I have been advised that I could receive a share of my husband’s future DRV points for the time we were married. At the time of marriage, I had 29.5 years of UK State P...

Taxation after separation/divorce
I’d really appreciate some advice on tax during separation and after divorce. I lastly filed jointly with my husband in December 2025 for the 2024 tax year. My husband began separation process September 2025. Does my tax class change for the whole of 2025 or from 2026? Separation year ends September...

Re: What made you smile today? :)
Lovely photo Sannerl. Just reminded me of when I was still in the UK and offered in home pet care services. Usually cats. One family had chickens and, a huge Sulcata tortoise that lived in their kitchen. The wife wanted to rehome him but her husband was reluctant. She and I hatched a plan. We found ...

Well, this happened. Meet Jacob aka 10-ply aka Shakey Jakey. He's a German short-haired pointer. About 4-5 yo. Scared of everything. Got him from an Italian shelter where he'd been for over 2 years. deutsch-kurzhaar-rassehund-mittelgross-friedrichsdorf-koeppern_0f0241f2-5bc2-4f23-844d-0a4ca1f14243....

I might be in a very difficult time now….divorce, health worries etc…..BUT what great snow we have now. Neighbours are moaning about clearing. I love it. Just made a snow man…..just for me. He’s quite imperfect but, so am I

Re: The one favourite childhood soul food - recipe
Homemade warm horseradish sauce... with boiled potatoes and roast beef. Are you sure it was roast beef? A very typical German recipe is Tafelspitz mit Meerrettichsoße (English wikipedia is here , also explaining the type of meat used). I’m sure she added flour and cream Sure she did. Just like the ...

Re: Money-saving tipps
My major concern is that that conventional dryers will be banned soon, but the heat pump replacements are crap. So want to buy one for occasional use. I use small garden in summer with line. And the room in Dach is really good. Just want to buy a conventional one while still available. But a good o...

Re: The one favourite childhood soul food - recipe
You've just reminded me of my favourite dinner my Oma used to make. Homemade warm horseradish sauce. Large amounts, not like a condiment…..with boiled potatoes and roast beef. Oma used to grate several horseradish stems. I’m sure she added flour and cream. I’ll look up a recipe. My mum cheated with ...
