Re: Any risks in being executor of my UK parents will
The Executor is a legal person and as such I would suggest opening an Executor or Trustee account with whichever bank. All estate income and funds should go into that account, so you can account for any IHT (sounds like none) and any Income Tax that may fall due if the administration takes a while.

Re: Including English working years in German pension insurance
Then I think that all you need to do is look at the combined schedule and count the months (1 day "occupied" in a month makes the whole month count) to see how that compares with expectations, with the numbers in the summary and with what that means going forward.

Re: Including English working years in German pension insurance
Have fun working through the maths - does your head in - but it means for you that the amount of pension does not change under the EU aggregation calculation, other than the fact that if you needed 35 years, you would qualify under that but not necessarily using your domestic record.

Re: Including English working years in German pension insurance
Sounds like they may have changed the format or something - who knows. So the pages that follow - do they give your the 2 calculations "innerstaatliche" and "zwischenstaatliche"? If so, at the moment they can only be based on normal pension age with 5 years minimum. Do they show ...

Re: Including English working years in German pension insurance
I am not sure what that schedule actually is because there is a difference between your actual German record and your aggregated record used to do the zwischenstaatliche Berechnung. I cannot log into the system and, of course, already have my pension but everything I ever received had a list of that...

Re: Including English working years in German pension insurance
A few months ago I received a letter from the German Pension Insurance authority asking me to provide information about the missing years in my pension history. These were years I was studying and working in the UK (I am a British citizen). I sent them as much proof as I could, and also gave them m...

I recently completed the Consideration of periods of school education and periods of educational training measures form and I now have a Feststellungsbescheid from DRV which includes the following information: B Monate für die Wartezeit (Mindestversicherungszeit)...

Re: State Pension payments to Germany
I think you are confusing the state pension with other pension saving options. You can simply have your state pension paid into whichever bank you want in £/$/€

Re: State Pension payments to Germany
In my opinion you are better off making voluntary NI payments. Because you are working abroad you should only have to category 2 payments which are currently £3.50 per week. Look on the Gov.UK for how to do this. By doing this you can build up right to both a german pension and UK pension. That is ...

Re: State Pension payments to Germany
You cannot transfer the state pension but when it is payable you can have it paid into any account in £ or €.
Private pensions are a different matter.

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax
You can pay in € if you want but don't ask me how you know how much to pay, so £ would be better. HMRC prefers a single payment but asks that if you pay in multiple transactions, each payment is at least a full year. Most people seem to do what you describe - pay - wait - use the NI chat function on...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax
Another question here.... :D On the nice letter I received from HMRC listing the years I can pay for, there are 2 payment dates listed for each year: 1. Payment date without penalty 2. Final time limit The payment without penalty date for all years except the last one (2023-2024) is 5th of April 20...

Hello. Thank you for replying. She was single all her life with no children. I am the only beneficiary. I am hoping the asset and debt calculation will be fairly straightforward, but you can never take anything for granted. This might be helpful https://www.gov.uk/valuing-estate-of-someone-who-died

Re: UK & German Inheritance Tax – Seeking Advice
On the UK side can I ask if your sibling was married and pre-deceased by their spouse? If so, any unused Nil Rate Band (NRB) from the first-deceased can be transferred to the estate of your sibling, giving up to a further £325,000 tax-free amount of estate. The estate must be valued by valuing all a...

With only 3 years then yes, you can simply pay any and all years on offer and as you say, it will be Class 3 as you were not working before you left the UK but your CF83 reply will tell you that

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax
If you consider that you meet the statutory requirements for paying at Class 2 abroad then you should write to HMRC and ask them to reconsider their decision (essentially an appeal). You would write to the address on the NI general contact page. The law is https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/10...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax
As former HMRC, albeit long-since away from the front line work in my head office ivory tower, lol, I can understand the officer's surprise when you mentioned progression. The UK tax system just doesn't have a concept like that, so the average employee just wouldn't grasp it. Foreign income is eithe...

It is true that various firms have different deals but I think they each allow you to book other operators' tickets these days - long time since I tried though.
And yes, the ticketing prices, offers, etc is a complete nightmare

Re: Windows 11 to unsupported hardware or Linux Mint
I have been running Windows 11 since it was launched with no more issues than one generally gets with computers. I have also used Linux for 20 years but for a specific purpose. I would not make that change for day-to-day use but these things are very personal.

Re: UK Rail Travel
I wouldn't use Train line unless they have changed their business model as they take, or used to take, a hefty commission on top of the ticket price. I bought my rail card from https://www.railcard.co.uk/ - use their App to store your railcard I live in the GWR region, so tend to use their website h...
